If you force everyone to dress and behave a certain way, then how can you tell the real from the false?
How can you tell who is really sincere, and those who are just going thru the motions?

Anyone can dress modestly.
Anyone can pray and seem holy and pious.
But how do you know who is a true believer and an unbeliever...if you force everyone to do the same thing?

In Egypt it is against the law to convert from Islam to another religion.
It is also against the law to preach Jesus Christ to, or, tell Muslims about the Bible.
Most all Muslim nations prohibit Muslims from converting to another religion.
And this is part of my point.

I am islamic and Allah knows what all knows not.Not all muslims are true believers.I follow hanif-islam.That is to aknowledge there is no god but god and we follow the teachings of Abraham. We believe in the Quran whole hearted but we do not follow the hadith. We question a lot of things. But never Allah and the prophet Muhamaad(pbuh). In the quran it says that it is not your prayers that reach THE GOD, but your piety(devotion). And that is different from being pious.Pious is showing or "pretending" faith. We can not pretend. It also says how you see people praying standing and bowing. If it is all an aproach to allah, all the better for you.I do not go to the mosque nor pray five times a day.I read.I focus on my piety till it gets perfected and I can be permitted to pray in my own fashion. We also believe that muslim women are not required to cover their whole body at all times. The first muslim convert was the first wife of the prophet muhamaad(pbuh).Khadija.And we believe she wore a veil over her face, but was not reqiured to have it on at all times. The purpose of the covering of the body is so mankind will not lust. And after we perfect ourselves to not lust, we can see the individual for who they are.And not how sexy or pretty she is.The mother of us believers. One of the greatest loves in my life.A true friend.I am of the urban culture and I wear timberland boots, ecko t shirts, fitted hats, and that is just ME.I am half African American and Chinese. So I am islamic with buddhist and islamic beliefs.Purely for submission to the will of allah.I have noticed that all muslims do not obey the true god.So that answers your question. Not all muslims are believers. That is the difference between being pious and piety.I WANTED TO ADD THIS AFTER THOUGHT:piousness can and will by the grace of Allah manifest gain into piety

Thanks For Your Question :)

But the first sentence in your question is wrong
"you force everyone to dress and behave a certain way"
As Muslims God ordered Us not to force anyone to do anything it is clear in the Quraan God says :
There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path.[2:256]

And say: "The truth is from your Lord." Then whosoever wills, let him believe, and whosoever wills, let him disbelieve.[18:29]

As you see from here it is clear that Islam Doesn't force anyone to do anything and who does so then he is disobeying God

One last thing ..It is clear that you are like many other who have misinformation about Islam ...If you want to know some truth and true facts about Islam contact me on abouterachess@yahoo.com or visit http://thequraan.com http://islameveryday.blogspot.com

There is no compulsion in religion, that's written in the Qur'an. Force should be a part of no religion.

No matter what the religion, there are still fakes out there who just go throught the motions. I don't concern myself about it, that's between them and God. In the Serenity prayer, it says, "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change...." One can't change or force anyone else to believe in their heart, and it's not our business to force anyway.

Btw, I'm not Muslim, but this question can be applied to any religion or way of life.

"There is no compulsion in religion" 2:256

Only god knows who is sincere, it is not for humans to judge.

You are right, but egypt is not an islamic country. It is ruled by a dictatorial military regime supported by america. If it had a truly islamic government, there would be no such law.

Speak for myself I choose to wear modestly and behave a certain way. Am a sincere and pious person. Being proud of who I am and not allowing people to change me.

Agreed we can't tell who is and who is not a true believer...Then again it is between them and the almighty, isn't it.

i am muslim. as from what you said it made sense. if true faith comes from the heart, how it can be forced. but Islam was clear of which women has to cover all her body except her face and her hand. and men has to cover what's between their belly button to their knees. not all muslim girls cover wear scarf. and muslim do it for the sake of God, not because they are being forced. some muslim countries are very strict. but the majority of muslim countries are not like this.

and Hijab (scarf) is our rights. and many women defend this right and fight for it. http://www.mollycooperphotos.net/Religious%20minorities/images/thumbs/thumb49.jpg
