The ancient Jews created a god who would tell them they were the most special and *wonderfulest* people in the whole wide world. This made the Jewish people very happy, but unfortunately that kind of provocative claim of favoritism caused some Jews to feel a little *too* important, the rapture-lovers to be a little *too* supportive, and Israel's neighbors (who have their own "you are my chosen" kind of god) to feel a little *too* neglected and mistreated.

It's a case of 'God likes me best. No he doesn't. Yes he does. Pow. Whoosh. Bang. Boom. God likes me best. No he doesn't. Yes he does...'

Israel is Jewish and most of the rest of the region is Muslim. The Muslim extremists feel like the Jews don't belong there and there can be some contention since Israel was basically created after WWII. The area is a homeland for many religions, so some people are a little possessive of it.

You can sort of factor the Bible into that, but it's more political intolerance.

Some think it is the beginning of Armageddon. I don't believe it is as there are other things that have not happened and the whole Armageddon thing is much blown out of proportion. I think really it has nothing to do with the biblical events that are to be just before Jesus comes but for the upswing in all the wars that will be just before He comes. I do believe that is just around the corner so people need to be ready for it but most are not and do not even study the bible to see what is to happen or what the signs are.

Nothing... Apocalyptic Christians just like to sensationalize everything. Apparently somewhere in some book they were told that a war over the "holy" land would prophesies the return of Jesus ( i think it was in the D&D guide to the undead maybe?).

They fail to realize that this conflict has been going on since the founding of the state of israel. When things start popping up all over the news their limited minds think it's all just beginning.

It is prophised in the Bible that a true sign of the times in which Jesus would return to the earth would be marked by a war in Israel.

Honey, don't ask and ask the Lord God, He will answer you through reading the word, I mean the bible. Unbeliever will tell you it has nothing to do with the bible, but you go ahead and find out for yourself and you will find the Truth.
