And why do you guys flare up and attack whenever there is a question about Mormons? Serious and longer awnsers, please.

Email me if you have comments. No hate email, or I'll report you. I shouldn't have to say that, but some of you "Christians" like to hate on Mormons like were some kind of disease.

I think the reason why you guys hate me is because you don't know the truth about us. The anti-mormon classes some of your churches teach you are full of lies and misunderstandings. Before you say things like polygamy, forced-marriage, "Mormons have their own planet", "They torture and brainwash you!", and "Take one step in, and you'll never go back!" (there's thousands more I could list), learn the truth. www.lds.org or www.mormon.org.

The whole native thing is true. A couple thousand years ago, the people that inhabited this land (who were once righteous), became so wicked (we're talking capturing women, raping them, torturing them, and forcing them and their children to eat their husbands and fathers), he cursed them with a dark mark, black hair, brown skin, different features.

We use the King James version of the Bible. It is considered by us to be the most accurate, because it wasn't simplified into modern english.

We have found that there are MAJOR differences between our Bible, and yours. So to you, it seems that we are making Bible quotes appear out of nowhere, but it's actually just the original version of that information, unabridged (not to say that there wasn't anything lost in translation).

Like I said, some of you people don't know what you're talking about. In response to Lady Love's comment, we do not baptise in the name Joseph Smith, only Jesus Christ. We are not Idolitrous. Babtism for the Dead is an ordinance preformed in our Temples. It is described in the Book of Mormon. Let me make this perfectly clear: when we do BFTD, we are not forcing them to be Baptised, we are merely making the covenant for them by proxy - they can accept it if they choose to.

Mormonism is not a cult, it isn't some spin-off of Evangilism or something like that. We believe the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day is the modern day restoration of the Gospel, not the overembellishment of some liar who claims that he wrote a book from gold plates (he did).

drglizard,

Actually, there were 12 witnesses (Joseph included). I, personally would think it would be quite difficult to convince twelve people to swear that they saw and handled something on their own word. Do you realize how much suffering and persecution those witnesses had to go through? I wouldn't do that for a friend, only if it was true.

2006-08-02 03:48:22 · update #6

Let me make myself clear. My comment earlier about the Natives didn't state that they still practice those evils, in fact, the white race is fast becoming as evil as they once were. I think the tables are about to be turned. God will lift the curse form the Natives, and we will be taken over and imprisioned in reserves.

Baxter,

It appears to me that you have doubts in your God. You don't think that God can change the landscape? Genes? Are you one of those people who don't think He could create a child inside Mary's womb? Are you that faithless? It appears to me that most christians are looking for the easy way out. "No Work, No Faith, No Problem", right? Who sid it'd be easy? John says that by the grace of God, we shall be saved. Without work? Why should we be able to be saved in our sins? You sound like the small child. When his parents tell him to go to his room, he reasons that since they didn't tell him not to go to his friend's house in that particular command, that he is justified to do so. Isn't it convenient that your translation of certian passages of scripture require no work, while ours require a lifetime of devotion?

2006-08-02 04:05:35 · update #8

I am a 13 year old child. I call myself a child because spiritually, I am. Yet it appears that the most that adults can say against my beliefs, is lies. It saddens me that most of the people who were willing to say things about me that were negative never took the time to resarch these allegations. I'll bet you not one of you went to mormon.org like I suggested. You decided to stay with what you were told, because it was convenient. You won't accept the Book of Mormon, because your translation of the Bible is convenient. You shut away that sinking feeling you have when you justify your membership in your church, because it's convenient. If you won't put effort into progressing in the Spirit, then you can't progress past the state that you're in.

You'll shut out my words, justify the reasons why you won't listen, and lock that terrible feeling of guilt and longing for something better, and replace it with numbness.

Because it's convenient.

In no way do i hate Mormons, however, In general I see it as incompartible with the Bible and to a large degree a jesus substitute/gospel substutute, a diversion from teh real deal

you used the general term Mormanism although there are several kinds I think Mormanism givess many people a family structure and comunity structure they can live in. Frankly Mormans probably often have a higher level of morality than the average american and a healthy way of living. But that doesnt make it the gospel truth

As far as beliefs, the idea (utah mormans) the god and mrs god were mormons on another planet who worked their way up to godhood being married in a mormon temple somewhere long ago in a galaxy far away... sounds too neopagan to me

I just dont see how this jives with a Biblical God, I would also be concerned that the first morman church was a mason lodge and the morman church is structured like the occultic masons

I am also concerned that when Joseph smith found the golden tablets and the angel moroni he was using a divining rod searching for treasure, something forbiddenin the scriptures

I have nothing against Mormons. Some of the most gentlemanly men I have known were Mormons. I also greatly appreciates your strong sense of family values and morality. I remember reading a teen boy magazine at a Mormon friends house that was talking about the evils of Porn. Everything they said was what My Church says about Porn. It was very true. So many Christians have lost that moral.

Why do I think your wrong though? Because your book of faith (that teaches much of what we differ in in belief) is not of God but a man who is a former New York con artist. Now I know people can turn from their old ways but John Smith was a con artist who came out and said, "Look what God gave me. I have the truth here. Everyone else only has a small portion of the truth." Is it possible that God would do this? Yes. He very well could reveal Himself to someone given that he did it countless times in the Bible. But would it be in a book that takes away from His Son's life and Death? I don't believe so. That's why I believe although your intentions are good you are wrong.
But I don't think I do attack Mormons. I follow "Love The neighbor" If you consider my previous answer an attack than I am sorry but I do not see how else to answer it.

The Book of Mormon makes claims about the history of American people without archaeological evidence to support those claims.

The Mormon scriptures were written in the 1800s in America, yet they use a sort of messed-up King James English. Americans didn't speak like that, and neither does God.

If you read about Joseph Smith and other early Mormon leaders--in a book written by a non-Mormon--you find out things about them which are not flattering.

Mormons tend to be super-conservative and supportive of the government, even when this conservatism and support contradict the scriptures.

Mormons have a violent history.

Most Christians don't see why any addition to the Bible was necessary.

Some Mormon doctrines seem silly, such as: baptism by proxy, eternal marriages, future status of married people as gods with their own planets to populate by procreation, plural marraiage (which I personally would agree with), and forbiddance of caffeine and alcohol consumption. (I know that plural marriages aren't officially permitted anymore.)

Many Mormons seem very prudish and preppy. Everyone knows or has a sense that truly spiritual people thrive on life and live it to its fullest, rather than following rules all the time.

Having said all this, I have several Mormon friends and they are some of the best people I know. But that doesn't make their beliefs any more true considering evidence to the contrary.

not wrong... just obscure

Fist of all, that Joseph Smith guy, or whatever his name is seems like he made himself out to be a god. I heard you guys baptize people in his name. Not sure if thats true, but if it is, thats blaphemy.

Among other things, you offer your body as a means to baptize the dead who didnt have the opportunity to do so. Where does the bible talk about that??? Where is that practiced? Who said that was acceptable??

Polygamy, good thing you stopped that. Sure it was practiced in the old testament, but Christians follow the new testament, its not practiced in the new testament.

Coffee: Its a stimulant right, so you forbid it. Ill give you that one. Your looking out for the well being of your members. But c'mon if your gonna ban coffee, coke (i mean the drink) has to go too. Be true to your word.

The book of mormon: I went to a meeting one time and this guy told me that the purpose of this testament is so that you can use it as a means to show you the correct path toward the Holy Bible. That made absolutly no sense to me. And if you read it, it just repeats the same teachings the Holy Bible uses, and a few new rules Smith threw in, so whats the point?

Thats the problem I have with mormons. But here is the thing. Mormons are one of the most devoted denominations I know. Your organized, your in tune with your spirituality. Thats what matters. There is always something were going to find obscure about other denominations. We all interpret the bible differently. What matters is that you accept Jesus as your savior and try to live your life as closely to how he lived his. Mormons are simply just attacked because their teachings are so different from other denominations. But the way I see it, better any Christian denomination then no Christian denomination

Personally I think it's pretty inappropriate to hate on anyone's religion for any reason, especially in a public forum. In their most basic form, all religions are not too far from each other in their ultimate goal; it's just the means to getting there that is different. It's much more about what you WANT to believe, and where you want to go with it.

That being said, here are the reasons I choose to disagree with Mormon philosophies. Please nobody take this personally, and forgive me if I get it wrong. I'm only going by what I've read and heard. First, I do not believe in polygamy. Now I know this was abandoned by the church years ago, but I still consider it a Mormon thing. Second, I don't believe that pledging a percentage of my life's monetary income makes me any better of a person than anyone else. It just makes you better with money (which I can commend you for). Third, I refuse to accept the idea that people who are not caucasion are "impure" and this is seen by their skin color. I don't know if this is still a teaching in the Mormon church or not, but I know it was, and I'm just not a fan of that myself (and for the record I'm a white man).

Like I said, these are just my opinions and you are free to believe as you wish, and nobody can take that away from you, especially a bunch of e-thugs on a message board. And if it ever starts to really bother you, just keep in mind that the Mormon message is more believable than Scientology. That'll help you sleep at night.

Mormonism is wrong. Its a cult inspired by a con man who had to beg and plead with his wife to go along with the story. He later was shot and killed while hiding out in a burning barn by the USA army for crimes he had committed. His early followers are even responsible for a terrible massacre of settlers and another of soldiers who were unfortunate enough to want to set up somewhere in the area the early Mormons considered their country. The modern church wouldn’t be so bad if there weren’t so many good people duped by this sect. I lived in Utah for a year as a non-Mormon and got to see first hand what is wrong with Mormonism. You have a system that controls the lives of the people more than even our government can. Mormons tithe 10 percent of their income (mandatory) to the church. This would be fine except the church elders are driving mercedes thanks to these moneys and if you don’t you get excommunicated. Anyone who is not Mormon or will not conform to their demands is "blacklisted" in Utah and will find it very hard to get employment and acceptance in other areas. Lastly if you want to join their church you have to start out being interviewed before you can even step foot in a "Tabernacle" and you are sent to the starter church first not the Golden Gilded Temples the Church of Latter Day Saints have built. Like I said before, most Mormon people are truly godly and are very good people, but some of the leaders I have known, heard of, and even sometimes seen first hand are more wicked than most powerful men, and have been involved in raping a minor or running a totally corrupt business, and even maintaining a prostitution ring on the campus of Bring'um Young.

I'm a mystic. I don't dislike either, but I don't think either is right. Still, the reason that Christians hate Mormons (I have been around christians for a long time) is because they go by a book that is not The Bible. To christians, the bible is the holy word of got, and therefore, the only true knowledge. (Notice how I say 'to christians') Still, Mormons use the bible AND another book which name I can't remember.
Also, christians don't like to call it 'hate', they just think that everyone should be a christian. It's more like intolerance, but if you tell them that they will say that they are not intolerant, that they love you, and want you to become a christian, but if you don't they'll take your women and stone you to death. Ok maybe they won't stone you to death or take your women (even though their bible says it's ok) but they will go on and on lecturing you about the evils of whatever you believe in and how the only truth lies in christianity.

You're not some kind of disease. You're human and loved by God just as much as I am....and the athiest is next door.

With that in mind, trust that I mean you no harm in my response.

My answer is not long...but it doesn't have to be...I believe that the Bible is the infallable Word of God....Mormons do too. Mormons also believe that the Book of Mormon is also the infallable Word of God...I, however, do not and this is why...

Everything that has come to pass beginning with Jesus' birth was predicted in some way shape or form in the old testement of the Bible. My Bible does not say that a man will see a vision and will be given a follow-up to the Bible.

Simple as that. Take it or leave it.

What do you mean by "you people?"

I know myself personally I do not have anything against Mormons at all. I have never made any attack on Mormons or any other Christian religion. I have even seen a Roman Catholic Bishop defend Mormons on Yahoo answers. Yes Mormons are sometimes criticised on Yahoo answers, but then if you read all the questions in this category you will notice that any belief in God is criticized by somebody. I think you may be making a generalization here that brings to mind motes and beams.

2006-08-02 03:36:43 · answer #10 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

I don't hate Mormons, but I do consider them to be "off" and here's the main reason why. The book of mormon can't be used historically, scientifically or in any other fashion outside of the mormon church. None of the people mentioned it ever existed, none of the places mentioned ever existed.

Now I will say however, and I'm sure I may get stoned by some of my Christian brothers and sisters for this, is that I do believe some mormons do have a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. They are trusting him and him alone for their salvation. Our God is a graceful God.
