You say that you don't believe in Purgatory because that word isn't in the bible. You say that you believe in the bible. But, where is the word "bible" in the bible?

I'm not trying to put you down, just a friendly debate between Christians. :-)

I don't want to you offend, but this may be the worst analogy I've ever heard in my life. Obviously the word bible isn't there, because there was no such thing at the time they were writing. You're comparing something you'd have to have faith to believe in its existence and something that you can actually hold in your hands.

The concept of Purgatory is present in 2 Macabees. If Protestants would prefer to refrain from referencing that book, however, I do believe that there is another excellent supporting passage in Mt 5:26, "Christ is condemning sin and speaks of liberation only after expiation. 'Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.'" Now we know that no last penny needs to be paid in Heaven and from Hell there is no liberation at all; so the reference must apply to a third place - Purgatory.

As for the Bible, that was always somewhat fluid until the fourth century A.D. when the Church established a canon. Even afterwards, however, there has been debate as to what should really be included and what shouldn't be. There are even occasions, I believe, when Jesus or the Apostles quoted scripture that we are not familiar with. Anyway, your point is noted that it's awfully hard to tell exactly what we should be reading and treating as God-inspired, irrevocable truth. How do you know what to follow if you can't even be sure of what the rule book is?

There are (were, will be) 4 hells!
The first is translated from the Greek it is the Grave. Well it is hell, but nobody is there just a lot of bones.

The second existed before the death of Christ, it was the Lap of Abraham. God only lets the perfect into heaven or those washed clean by Christ. All that were in this hell are now washed clean and are in heaven.

Across a gulf one could see another hell. Here are all that are not washed clean by Christ. They have refused him, or he refused them.
They have not been judged by God but there is no other place for them. Purgatory, Hell. Call it what you will, I would not want to be there judged or not!

The last HELL is not yet. It is on earth, a formation of a Lake of Fire. It will form after all is done on the earth, and all are in heaven for the last judgment. Satan Will be thrown into the lake and Die. Those of man who God finds wanting will be thrown into the Lake and Die with Satan.
All thrown in this lake will be blotted out of the memory of the living!

That is when Satan dies, you will not remember that there ever was a Satan, he and all that died with him never existed!

Not there but the "Word" is. And isn't that what we want to go by? Purgatory is the invention of the Catholic church and was not even in that church till around the 1500's, I believe it was the Council of Trent that got it going as people were leaving the church more and more and it wanted to get them back by showing that they could still go to Heaven if they did wrong but had to do some penance first. It is in the history books as well as the Catholic encyclopedia so see it for yourself if you have any doubts.

Not only is the WORD Purgatory not in the Bible, but neither is the concept.

The word Rapture is not in the Bible, but the concept and teaching is.
