A bit hypocritical I would say. Are you using God's name in a respectful way when doing this? Not much respect there at all so it is going directly against the command that says not to use God's name in vain. Better to get another way to express yourself than to use God's name in vain, don't you think? How about, "Oh my banana," or "oh my apple" or just "rats"? Or just say, "OH!" My word is another one. Sit down and think a bit and I bet you could come up with a lot of things instead of using God's name in vain.

Most exclamations such as Geez, dammit, Oh my God, etc., ARE considered to be swearing. There is no difference in using these than there is in saying "f-ing" or "frick" instead of the F-word or saying "shoot" or "sheez" instead of ****. They are all swear words, or cursing.
No matter the word/words used, the intent is clear that you are not saying something that is acceptable.
And saying Oh my God instead of a potty word is only hypocrisy if you believe in God. If you believe, then that would be taking the Lords name in vain. If you don't believe, then they are just words.

See what religion does to people...he actually has to question how he swears. You know what...If it were a really big deal to God (if there is one) for you or I to say "Oh my God!" than we'd be struck down in our tracks. Just go ahead and swear to your hearts content...it matters not other than the fact that you'll come off as an illiterate moron lacking in vocabulary. PEACE!

I confess I have a really hard time with this one. I think most of us do because it is so frequently used and society really can't imagine it being sinful. But it is a sin given the third commandment.

Saying "Oh my God" may be less offensive than saying "goddamnit" but it's still taking the name of the Lord in vain.

I would rather say a swear word than OMG. I don't think you should say God's name unless you are talking to Him or about Him--out of respect.

when you think about that exclamation ... its like an unfinished sentence isn't it ..
oh my god .. i cant believe what they said
oh my god ... i don't believe i just did that
etc etc
so in a sense its like speaking with god isn't it .. about things that take you by surprise or holds you in disbelief
i don't feel its a bad thing to say at all in my opinion

Technically its worse because (depending on how you say it) you make it sound like whatever it is that made you say it is a wrongful doing by God.

Swear words are what society says are swear words.
The Bible is only concerned about using the Lord's name in vain.

Whether you say "Oh my God" or "Oh my gosh", your intent is the same, so it could be argued that either one is blasphemous.
Personally, I think words are words.
