I am a redneck, trust me. I from Georgia, everyone around where I live is as southern as southern gets. I love the Blue Collar guys, but I don't get Jeff's joke: You might be a redneck if you've ever been accused of lying through your tooth!

Rednecks don't take care of their teeth. Their teeth fall out from being decayed. Usually a tooth is all that is left in their mouth. Thus, if someone accuses you of doing anything through your tooth, (only a redneck has a tooth) than you are a redneck.

The correct phrase, not the one Mr. Foxworthy is using, is "lying through your teeth". Most people assume that rednecks don't have teeth, or very bad ones if they're still there. So, I'm guessing, that if you have bad teeth and you're on your way to dentures ... you probably only have one or two teeth left. If you only have one, then you couldn't be accused of "lying through your teeth" because you don't have TEETH, just a tooth. It's a stretch, but that's what came to mind when I heard that one.

Have you ever heard of someone accusing someone else of "lying through their teeth"? I'm not sure exactly what it means, but it surely means lying. When it's said about a redneck, it just means he only has one tooth left. Does that do it for you?

there's a conception that rednecks have poor dental hygiene and therefore few teeth. so instead of "lying through your teeeth" it's "lying through his tooth", singular rather than plural.
along the same line as the front row of a willie nelson concert having 14 teeth (or some other really low number)

It just means that as a redneck, you don't spend alot of time on dental hygiene and you've only got one tooth remaining.
So when you lie, you're lying through your single tooth.
