In my humble opininon both should be disgarded as the basis for religious belief systems. The books are archaic, full of contradiction, and historically accurate only to a point. FYI there are numerous versions of the Bible that attempt to "update" it and all fail to do so as there are as many books on how to read the various versions as there are versions. So far as the Quran goes it's also been rewritten into several versions and all have the same issues as the Bible. Yeah, there are some good life lessons in both books...but they're mostly fictional, allegorical, and metaphorical. Bottom line is these are STORY books and shouldn't be treated as anything more. PEACE!

If either one or both is the word of God, then obviously no. What you are attempting to do is to change the Bible to fit your beliefs of what is right and wrong, then what God thinks is right or wrong. For example, nowadays sex outside of marriage (adultery, premarital sex) is pretty rampant and that is part of our culture, so you might say that we should change the Bible to fit that. But God considers it wrong (at least if the Bible is God's word) and it is wrong no matter what century or what culture.
The Qu'ran may say no pork (and it may have been that it can go bad), but then it would have said no mutton (sheep) or beef (cow) as well, yet it does allow eating both of those. More likely they consider it against God's will over something else. Maybe the pig is sacred to God in some way. Or any number of things, things we might not even know about but that God may have a problem with. In essence, you are assuming things that may or may not be true, allow the beliefs to continue. These beliefs don't hurt you in any way, and may wind up being what God actually wants and you are trying to change things which may mislead many later. I'm not saying for sure either is right, but if one or both is you may wind up making yourself one of those antichrist's we hear so much about.

How does one go about updating the (alleged) word of a perfect being, whose words should, theoretically, remain up-to-date for all eternity. If he's so perfect, he should be able to see into the future a few hundred years. And if he did that (common sense, for a perfect being), he should know how to word things so that they stay relevent. Maybe religious adherence should be updated instead.

It needs an overhaul to include the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
"There are three essentials of the church: acknowledgment of the divine of the Lord, acknowledgment of the holiness of the Word [Bible], and the life which is called charity" (Divine Providence n. 259[3]).

Not so much updated as completely destroyed and stricken from the memory and history of mankind. Then we would finally have peace and harmony.
