God isnt man or woman. I think we refer to Him as a "Him" beacause we believe the first human being on earth was a man created in the likness of God, so therefore we refer to Him as being male but we don't actually believe that He is.
I mean c'mon, you can't call your god It, can you??
and ignore all those Christians who answered you hatefully, ignoring our teachings of mercy and love. I applaude you for asking a question without insulting our religion

Actually there are many female "gods". The earliest recorded was Inanna/Istar. She served on the council of 12. She was the first woman to get on the council. Since the first "gods" were all male, when man created god in their image and likeness, they made "him" a male. That way they kept the power over women. The universal life force that is responsible for all living things is neither male or female and is also both male and female. It would take far to much space and time to explain what god really is. There is a life giving energy out there, it's just a shame that man has twisted it to fit his needs and wants.

God is a Spirit being. If you read in the Bible you will find out that He is an all powering spirit being who always was, always will be.There is the Trinity which is the Father ( who is God ), The Son (who is Jesus Christ, who came to Heaven in the flesh) and the Holy Spirit. God sent Jesus down to save all mankind, but obviously not everyone would or has listened and when Jesus went back to Heaven to be with the Father he sent the Holy Spirit to us to be our comforter. Its the truth and not everyone believes this but take it how you want . We did not become who we are by the "big bang theory" as many believe as God was always here and its not a matter of him being male or female as He is a spirit being (and in him there is no male or female),who has created the heavens and the earth, whether some choose to agree with that or not. He formed man to be His companion and friend its just too bad too many turn away from Him when His name is mentioned.

Becasue at the time the world is supposed to be dominated by males, so when they created the fictional characters of god/gods, who would buy it if it was a women. Why would a female god make the males dominant and be a female, that would not make logical sense now would it? The trueself has no gender, but while playing the game as a human, we experience both in different times throughout human history.

I would assume He doesn't have to be and may not even actually be, that is just the way the Bible was written and since all of the authors are male, they may have written it using their own point of view. Just naturally attributing male psychology to the God they are writing about. Or it may actually be that He is "male" and that just happened to be the way things are, Not through any real choice but that is just what happened, who knows. In essence, I don't believe it matters that much (not trying to sound rude when I say that, but can't inflect tone on a computer), what matters are the teachings.

I wonder that also. Buddhism also say men only can become Buddha. All female dominated religions at that time. In those days and also till recently women are regarded as inferior to testosterone driven men since they concentrate on physical ability only. Muslims still make their women hide behind their veils. It is all because men act like animals and cannot control their desires. Only recently in US and the west there are rules which make these men BEHAVE. ( I LOVE IT ) May be after 50 years we can start a female dominated religion. If we have HILLARY CLINTON as a president , it will be a good start.

In "primitive" civilizations, the godhead was female. There were later religions which worshiped male and female gods. It was with the coming of Christianity that decided the godhead was the Father, instead of the Mother.
The only remnant Christians have is Mother Nature.

God is energy
Not a man nor a woman
It just is, it cannot be created, or destroyed
The god we think of is false. Mostly we worship dead people that were powerful I their time.
