You really don't have to give him anything if you can't figure something out. It's probably best to stick to something meaningful that he can keep for awhile if not forever. You could try giving him a money clip, I don't know if a lot of guys still use those. But overall, it's probably not necessary for you to get him something if you think he won't want a ring. He might just want to run out and get you a ring instead so that everyone will know the good news!
Also, please don't listen to people who say it's not "right" for you to propose. It's definitely not for every woman, but if it's for you then I say good luck and I'm sure it will be just perfect!

I agree with denizen251. If he says no, you've ruined it.
I wouldn't ask, so he'd always be giving me a ring. But I would consider a nice gift like a Movado watch or something else he really likes as an engagement gift...AFTER HE ASKS.

If he likes to golf, I would get him a few new clubs, because that is something he will use and get enjoyment out of. If you are more the traditional type, a pocket watch is unique and beautiful and you can have it engraved, and then display it (it can become a family heirloom that way also).
If none of these sound like good ideas to you, try this website:

It lets you narrow down ideas based on likes, dislikes and price range too.
Good luck :-)

If you want to give him a gift, it just depends upon his tastes.
But when you marry, he needs to have a ring.
The first things I looked for on attractive women during the time I was not married were ring(s) on her left hand. I'm sure women do the same.

when it comes to marriage its not about if u like to wear jewelry or not, its a symbol of unison between two people, a symbol of love...he should at least respect that fact and wear a wedding ring.

Hey, I may be old-fashioned, but we girls are not design to ask the guy to marry us! If a man is not ready to commit with you in matrimony then he never will. So don't waste your breath asking him to marry you and wasting your precious time thinking waht to get for him to propose to him. Don't be silly. Let him go on bended knees to ask for your hand!
Remember: A man is not ready until HE DECIDES when he's ready!
Good luck!

You could give him key ring or money clip - they are not jewelry but used everyday.

How about something that means something to him. Maybe a grandfathers pocket watch or something like that. he doesn't necessarily have to wear it or carry it on him. think about what he likes most. I think if I could do it over i'd get my husband baseball tickets and propose over the big screen. He'd love it. that's his favorite, baseball.
