You people cry assimilation to american culture. Am I not speaking english, hello!!! Look at my record, i have no criminal record not even a parking ticket. I work and pay taxes like everyone else. I'm not on welfare. I am a veteran, i served 4 years in the military, 2 and a half in Iraq. Yet if i fly the mexican flag on a cultural holiday because of respect for my roots, everyone throws a fit and says i have to assimilate to american culture. What exactly is it? Do they not want to see beyond it and know that I have pride in this country, but i also acknowledge my roots. Why would you hate when i do this? What is the American culture, is it not what i described myself to be? I celebrate 4th of july every year of my life. Explain to me why you would judge me then?

OK so how's this , I'm 2/3 Comanche and 1/3 German , got that? OK , lets see , America has fought mexico in a war , Texas has fought mexico in a war and its still OK to come over here and fly the banner they fought under? Soooo , lets say Ive decided i want to show my German heritage , i think I'm gonna start carrying a nazi flag during ...whatever holiday Germany might have , I'm gonna put a nazi flag on a pole in front of my house , I'm gonna send my "hypothetical" kids to school with a nazi flag so they can run it up the flag pole, and from what your saying that's fine right

southerngirl says a lot in her comment. I will be the first to admit that I do have a problem with the Mexican flag being waved in our streets while illegal immigrants are protesting for rights as American citizens. Read that again really carefully before you think I am racist. I will also admit that, since those rallies, I have become more sensitive to it. I am an American, and feel that my country has been disrespected. Once bitten, twice shy. You have a right to fly the flag of gay pride or the rebel flag also. Go ahead and fly your flag, you just should understand that after the May marches, some Americans have had their country disrespected. We may not be as tolerant as we once were. Once again, the illegal has had a negative impact on the true citizens of this country. Not your fault, just the facts.

Unfortunately Americans do not even assimilate I don't know why this subject keeps coming up. Sit back and watch in a crowded area, you'll see Americans(Yes even the ones on here that claim to want to help the less fortunate Americans) You'll see the lines are drawn the The Americans are "The Good,Bad and the Ugly" And yes I'm a blue blooded American I wish I could say proud.

Sounds to me you are doing quite well. The problem is in the other 10 million illegals that are giving the American population a bad impression. It makes some people jump to conclusions. However, those that lump you into the same category are just being bigoted by making assumptions based on no knowledge of you or your lifestyle. Fly the Mexican flag proudly but be proud too of America. The two can coexist.

Hey, fly the Mexican flag if you like. The people who criticize your are just plain ignorant. I've seen the Irish flag flown on St. Patrick's Day. I tell you, if I was Mexican with your credentials and flew the Mexican flag on a cultural holiday and got criticism, I'd be all over in their ugly faces!! Stay strong, brother.
Cheers!

Sounds like you are an exception to the rule. I think that as long you are celebrating American holidays and traditions and actually enjoying being free here, there's nothing wrong with honoring your heritage.
The problem comes in when people from other countries come here and then ***** and complain about everything that's wrong with our country. They don't try to be American-they want to be their nationality in a different place and they don't respect the American way of life IN ADDITION to honoring their own heritages. They expect us to change who we are and conform our nation to their needs and if we don't, we're not treating them equally.

That's flawlessly comprehensible, you grew up in American tradition and revel in American meals. It isn't a surprise that you just discover professional Korean meals too highly spiced, you are no longer used to it. I comprehend that you just desire to include your tradition, however you can also have got to keep away from the spiciest meals and construct up a tolerance. Just take it slowly, you cannot difference your style buds over night time for those who real are set on having fun with Korean delicacies.

The fact that you are proud of your Mexican heritage is great. What offended so many people about Mexicans displaying flags during the immigrant rights marches a few months ago is the ATTITUDE the people had during those marches.

I think you need to settle down a look around.
I have German roots but I NEVER fly the German Flag. I also have Frence roots but I NEVER fly the French Flag.
I fly the American Flag EVER day. But then I am a citizen.
