Has anyone seen this? "Ten Middle Eastern and Asian immigrants sued the government Tuesday, alleging officials let their U.S. citizenship applications linger indefinitely by delaying background checks."
My question is, what gives them the right to assume they are in any position to sue the US government over ANYTHING!?!?! It is by our grace that we allow foreigners to immigrate into this country... this just shows how we are taken for granted.

I saw this a lot when I worked for immigration. The Citizenship and Immigration Service doesn't conduct the background checks. We would send the applicant's information to the FBI, and they would do the background checks. Some would come back right away, but there were a few that took months, even years. An applicant for citizenship has to submit fingerprints every 15 months. They are used to find out if the applicant has a rap sheet or has been arrested for anything. It's the name checks that take the longest. Of the many thousands of files that we had in our office, I'm sure there were nearly a thousand that were only pending for the security checks. Everything else had been cleared, the tests had been passed, but the immigration office was waiting for the name checks to come back cleared from the FBI. And of the ones that were pending for name checks, they were predominantly arab or asian names. There were a few Jamaican and Russian, a couple of european names thrown in there, but the majority, as I said before, were arab or asian. I agree with you that they shouldn't be allowed to sue our government. I also pity the decent, honest people who are trying to become citizens and have to wait for all the security checks to clear. But there's nothing we can do about what their parents named them. I feel bad that their application process is taking so long, but hey, if a bunch of arabs from the middle east hadn't blown up some buildings with airplanes, then their security checks would clear much quicker.

I happen to agree with this statement. If they don't like the length of time then they can go back home.
