If you believe in God that is, have you ever offered Him a small token of your love? I try to do this occasionally as it helps me feel closer to Him. This week I am going to take all the money I would normally spend on soda and give it to the St. Vincent De Paul Society at my Church. It is a small token of love for Someone who has given me so much.

It can be done outside of Lent.

Sorry I can't help but laugh. "Holier than thou" I think that I would be really awful at that game. I am probably one of the worst I know of.

Yes, I sometimes spend time at the church instead of going out for a walk or sleeping at home...and help the ones around me. God loves this.

What a wonderful & thoughtful question! ☺
I worked in workers comp for over 20 years & saw the many horrible things that Injured Workers go thru, and the lies that are told to their employers by the insurance companies. I have collected data & am writing 10 books, and started blogs, etc - all designed to help Injured Workers & employers with workers comp issues. When I left my high paying job I had NO job waiting. I jut took the "plunge" and had been without income for 2 years. Even tho I had no income, I continued to write & KNEW that what I was doing is right. I help others anonymously, and feel wonderful.
My belief has been that if we all help someone we do NOT personally know, it uplifts society and brings us closer to touching the grace of God. Thank you for asking such a thoughtful question.
Have a gloriously beautiful day! ☺

everytime my thoughts are focused toward god, i am giving up something, i am doing something special to show my love for god

i must admit there are times my prayers may be more sincere, more fervent than just a simple "thank you" or a prayer when i am going on the roadway, "thank you that i am having a safe drive with no accidents or mechanical failures of any kind"

see: when i pray...i am offering up

...a person should always imagine that the fate of the whole world depends on his or her actions...

constant communion...that's where it's at

remember: lovingkindness is the binding force that holds the world together...so, you see somebody walking down the road, say a prayer for them, could be simple (some prayer is better than none) "I pray he/she is happy"

it is admirable that you are going to take all the money you would normally spend on soda and give it to the Lord

may i suggest that whenever the though of soda pop comes up in your mind...take this as a divine opportunity to pray

may god continue bless your efforts

How is giving up a monetary sum showing your love to g-d? Does he need the money? IMO to show that you love g-d is to follow g-d's ways. love thy neighbor kind of stuff. Respect yourself and g-d will respect you. If you truly believe in g-d then you should know that g-d loves you no matter what. Where did all the idea come about in giving stuff up to show your love to
g-d? So much of the new testament has been misconstrued from the Torah it isn't even funny anymore. In the Torah it is mentioned that the covenant between man and g_d is to sacrifice the foreskin but for devotion not love. and there is a difference.

Rather than give God a small token of love; I give Him ALL my love and ALL my time. Without Him, I would not be able to love my family and friends, nor would I be here on earth. He is #1 in my life and always will be. My family also puts God first!

I don't believe you have to buy God's love, but I do believe that whatever you do for your fellow man with a good heart will be welcome. God wants us to love one another and to just do the best we can. I too love to donate when I am able. If not money, then a smile or a kind word will do. Just do it for the right reason, because it is what we are called to do. Spread the love. Whatever you give, you get back. But don't give to get back, because it doesn't work that way.

I'm much more interested in showing my love to people I care about, or to those less fortunate. I give clothing to Big Brothers/ Big Sisters and contribute to some health-related charities, but I don't do that for any kind of god, I do it to help my fellow human beings.

I sometimes try to go to the local orphanage on special occasions with candy and toys for the kids there. I also like to donate a little part of my salary to the institution to go towards the children's expenses and future.

I used to a long time ago.
It wasn't to show Him my love though.
It was to get something I wanted.

Let's make a deal. I'll do this and You do that.
Ridiculous.
I didn't know any better at the time.
I look back now and I laugh at myself.

He who has it all, I who have nothing, Let's make a deal--Duh!

As I go, I find that I understand that He understands me better than I understand me.

I gave up drinking alcohol.

Of course, at the time I offered to do so, I was going through the bed spins, and needless to say, was feeling mighty sick.

But I took that as a sign that drinking alcohol would lead to nothing good, and gave it up.
