If you want to hold coservative values then no don't go you will not be allowed back in.

However if you are a Lib then by all means you will be allowed back into the country just send a letter to Barbara Boxer, or Nancy polovski, Billary, or any other Liberal piece of cake you know, they will set you free

If you are applying for an adjustment of status, no. The AOS automatically dies if you leave the US.
