Seriously, whether or not you agree or believe why does it matter to you? Why do you feel CALLED to insult or hurt? Do you actually enjoy upsetting people or depressing someone? I do not understand why you feel the need to be rude.

First I have and do read the Bible. Second, Christians are allowed to ask for prayers even for themselves.

I once asked the same question about Christians.

Their response was horrible to a 14 year-old boy who had homosexual feelings and was asking for assistance from other gay people on how to deal with it.

All the Christians said was that he was going to hell unless he repented, and that he was sick, gross, disgusting and an abomination.

Did they actually feel CALLED to insult and hurt this kid?

Did they actually enjoy upsetting this kid and depressing him more than he was?

I do not understand why these Christians feel the need to be rude when this kid was genuinely asking for help from those who have walked in the same shoes.

I would start out by questioning why a person is seeking prayers or spiritual help through this medium and not another, like their local church or a website/chat forum that is specifically devoted to that purpose. Like it or not, this is meant to be a marketplace of ideas and a free and open forum of communication, where anyone, even the rude and intolerably immature, may voice their point of view, within some very broad and flexible guidelines. In other words, if you are not prepared to receive the full gamut of responses, from the sincere and relevant, to the lowbrow and sophomoric, then just don't post here. This is not to say that you will never get a good or meaningful response - very probably, you will, especially given the apparently large number of earnestly spiritual (particularly evangelical christian) people who make a habit of posting here. But you will also get the jerks of the world right along with it. As Austin Powers says "it's Freedom, baby, yeah!".

This is not exactly an answer but I thought you might enjoy it. It is a poem I have on my fridge. It is called " desiderata"
Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of herioism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feigh affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perenial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you is sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
YOU ARE A CHILD OF THE UNIVERSE, NO LESS THAN THE TREES AND THE STARS; YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO BE HERE. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.- Max Ehermann
For being so compassionate- this is my gift to you today, Debra M. God bless- Peace

Because when people hate blindly or feel threatened by someone else's opinions and beliefs, they think the only way to deal with it is to put that other person down. Don't take it personally. Ignore the ignorant. Have a great day, hun.

PS ~ Felix, dude, what are you talking about? A shaman is a spirit healer. It has nothing to do with people being rude to one another. I don't get it. Did you perhaps mean to use another word?

Deb: I am one of those flaming atheists who post around here. I wasn't going to answer that question from the guy who was depressed because I when I am asked to pray for somebody in RL I never know what to say. "I can't because I am a stone cold atheist and it's like writing a letter to Santa Clause to me. No offense." Or should I say "yeah sure" and blow them off because in my universe praying and not praying have the same effect.
What I do now is say "I'll get my mother to do it." She believes in God and spends about a 1/2 hour a day praying.
Then you got me curious. BAD thing to do with a Freethinker. So I checked the post out. This guy is MAD angry. He sounds like he is two bad days from getting himself in trouble with the law. Domestic Violence wise or workplace violence wise. Don't you feel for his wife? You can see what I told him.
But I did not think that what anybody told him was at all rude or insulting. why do you think so? Why does anybody think so?

The rude person is trying to draw attention to themselves.
plus, I would guess the average age on here to be about 14 which explains a lot in itself. To a 14 yearold everything is a big joke, unless it deals directly with them, in which case it is then the only important thing in the world. Best advise is the same as the rest of life, ignore the bad ones, and move on.

I don't get that either. I am an atheist, but that doesn't give me the right to be rude. However, some questions just cry out for smart remarks, and you really shouldn't come here looking for that kind of help. Isn't the rule for chrisitan prayer to not ask things for yourself, to consider the lillies of the field and all that. So--- maybe the folks who are getting blasted are just getting what your god wants them to have.

"And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." - Matthew 24:12

"For wheresoever the carcass is, there will the eagles be gathered together." - Matthew 24:28

It's just not popular to actually have a heart and to show compassion. And people like that, they're vultures, they see hardship, and find it ripe for the picking. It's a powertrip for them, that somehow, they feel superiour in kicking someone who's down.

Because you have these childish idiots who are only in it for points and don't care what sort of response they post.

I really like the idea of Yahoo Answers, but I don't like the fact there's no better way yet to regulate the stupidity, shallowness and rudeness that is too prevalent here. People need to grow up.
