Because we're human. We are all capable of falling victims to greed, envy, materialism, and other emotions we know are not healthy. Sometimes we don't even realize that we're doing something wrong. And it's not just Christians that are capable of these actions.

Nobody, in the world is perfect, if that was the cause we all would be called Gods. I can't speak for all Christians, but I have slipped up on a few things in my life time that I know was not the Godly thing to do, but afterward I went back to God and asked him to forgive of my behavior. As it says in the scriptures "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23....However in the following verses 24-26. The apostle Paul tells us that Jesus has already forgiven us of all are wrong doing and we as Christian have to try are best not to fall into the things of the world. Its a daily battle.

Because all humans are flawed we all do things that are either bad for ourselves or hurt others. This isn't an action that is confined to Christians. All religions and even those without do things that are morally and legally wrong. Being a Christian does not make you magically immune to bad choices, it simply provides you with a road to salvation when you make them.

Why does anyone else do things they know are bad? Christians are not the only group of people to have a sense of morality, and they are just as human as everyone else.

Temptation, the devil.
They don't study the Word of God.
The devil is always attacking Christians. Check out the first chapter of Job.
check out Matthew 16:22-23.

Because they know they can get away with it, and then pray later and ask for forgiveness, and then go on TV and cry and make a mess of themselves (Rev. Jimmy Swaggart) and act like they are so repentant -- all after they got what they wanted.
Oh, not to mention, getting people to feel sorry for them so they will give more money to their church.
And then stand there and preach that the world is going to hell unless they convert and believe in their myths.

Self Righteousness is most of it.
Also, not being told by their Shepard's all a christian needs to know regarding forgiveness, retribution, reconciliation, etc. The 'blind leading the blind', scenario.

Because god hates all sin but he also forgives all sin. It's really a very convenient religion.
