First, carefully look over your life, and realize what it is that is bothering you. Know that sin (the breaking of God's laws) bears a heavy burden on the soul. Ask yourself these questions:

Have I ever lied? (if you have, what does that make you? [hint: a liar])
Have I ever stolen anything? (Value is irrelevant. Be it as worthless as a paper clip, or expensive as a yacht, theft is theft. If you have, what does that make you?)
Have I ever looked lustfully at someone? (God considers lust to be as adultery. If you have, what does that make you?)
Have I ever used God's name in vain? (ie treating God's name as a vile four-letter word)
Have I ever hated anyone? (God considers hate to be as murder. If you have hated, what does that make you? [hint: a murderer at heart])

Think about it... if you answered 'yes' to them, you'd be a lying, stealing, blasphemous, murderer and adulterer at heart.

If God were to judge you, on Judgement Day, by just those 5 questions alone (which, incidentally, are 5 of the 10 Commandments), would you stand as being innocent, or guilty?

Now, given your last answer, do you think you'd go to Heaven or Hell? (and does the possibility of going to Hell [a place of continual and eternal pain, torment, and sorrow] concern you?)

But God did something so you don't need to go to Hell.

Think of it this way... Imagine you're in a courtroom, and you're guilty of many serious crimes. The judge says, "It's a fine of $500,000, or prison." You don't have anywhere near that amount of money, so the bailiff begins to walk you out of the courtroom when someone you don't even know appears. He runs up to the judge with a check and says, "I've paid the fine for you." Now that the fine has been paid, the law no longer has any hold on you. You're free -- because of the gift you were given.

This is what God did for you by sending Jesus to die on the cross in your place. So that you wouldn't have to go to Hell, God sent his only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross -- suffering the punishment that justice demands. Then He rose from the grave, forever defeating death! The Bible tells us, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

If you will repent of your sins and put your trust in Jesus, God says he will forgive all your sins and grant you the gift of everlasting life. Just like the court case we just talked about, if you repent (that means to confess your sins to God, and turn away from your sins) and put your trust in Jesus, then you will not have to suffer God's justice in Hell because the payment for your crimes was made by Jesus on the cross.

If you're not sure what to pray, read Psalm 51, and make it a model for your prayer. The words are not "magical," what God cares about is the attitude of your heart. When you pray, it should sound something like this, "Dear God, I repent of all my sins, such as (name them). I put my trust in Jesus Christ as Lord (to say Jesus is your Lord means you are now making Jesus the master over your life) and Savior. Forgive me and grant me your gift of everlasting life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen."

Now read your Bible daily, and obey what you read. God will never let you down.

You are not able to cleanse anyone includding yourself.....that is Gods job......you simply love God love your neighbor and obey God, He may use you as an instrument in this situation or He may choose not to. Stay intune with God. Pray for this tormented soul.

Do the 12 steps suggested in AA. You don't have to be an alcoholic to do them. You can do them on any subject. They bring in a Higher Power at which time you can use what ever God you believe in. I believe in Jesus Christ but this works no matter what you believe. Even if you don't believe because your higher power can be anything. This works for drug addicts, gamblers, sex addicts, and the people who are affected by them. Good luck.

With the Word of God or the Bible. Read the Bible and you will see.

"There are three essentials of the church: acknowledgment of the divine of the Lord, acknowledgment of the holiness of the Word [Bible], and the life which is called charity" (Divine Providence n. 259[3]).

Repent of your sin (confession to God). If you haven't already asked Jesus into your life, then do that. Renew your mind (study the Bible and find the truth). Pray and also find a good church to go to.

I would say confession and prayer but then I am a Catholic and that is what I believe. You should do whatever your faith requires or suggests.

I'm not sure you can without them pulling you down with them. Sounds like something they have to want to do for themselves.
