Well... if you have read your bible, then you must be VERY aware that the biblical definition of marriage is between a man and as many women and foreign slaves he can afford to keep and bare him children.

The idea of MONOGAMOUS marriage is less than two thousand years old. The Roman empire made it popular.

Moving on...

why does marriage have to "slip" to the point where the participants are animals and children?

There are countries where marriage has INCLUDED homosexuals for YEARS now, and not one of them have had a problem with the American slippery slope.

Provide what ever reason you want to back up your bigotry and discrimination, but please, please, don't pretend it is because you care about society.

If marriage does not mean a relationship between one man and one woman as defined by the Bible then?

You mean if marriage DOES mean a relationship between man and woman?

If you are a christian you follow the Bible and you follow every word, you cant just pick out what you like and what you dont like. It says in the Bible, Marriage is for a man and a woman. Its a free country, you can love whoever you want, but the law only allows woman and man to marry, 'cept some places. Why would you want to marry a child or an animal...are you IN love with a child or an animal? Marriage is for TWO people who are IN LOVE. three or more people is a crowd. God has the right to set these limits bc he is the Almighty and he created love, marriage and you.

Marriage has very little to do with the standards set in the bible. It is, in fact, one of the oldest social institutions, long before mankind even had the imagination/revelation to create such an institution as religion. It is the basis of the most simple social unit- the family. Most likely the "standards" were set according to what was deemed most observably natural. (i.e. a woman and a man together produced more offspring; and in some cases, a dominant man could make more than one woman pregnant at a time, increasing the chance of viable births and surviving offspring.) Even in this day and age, we understand that the family is the most basic social unit, and the standards of marriage are meant to reflect what a family should be.

God did not create a man for Adam. He created a woman for him. A woman completes a man. So yes thats the early marriage we have is those two. For Adam and Eve to have kids there had to be a man and woman. In Romans 1:26-28, God shows you right there that men shall not lay with other men, and same with women. When God set up Pastors and Decons in 1 Timothy 3:1-16 he said they must be the man of one wife. That kills the more than one wife thought.

Well society would set what marriage is based on being fair and decent. It should be between 2 consenting adults of whatever combination. To even bring up the adult-child or adult-animal is just crap.

Why does a book that is 99% evil get to tell everyone, whether they believe in it or not, what marriage is?

you know, that's funny because adam and eve weren't married, were they?
if this about gay marriage-that's fine. if gay people get married, the republic won't fall and marriage between man and woman won't be deemed unimportant. hell- statistics can show you that marriage doesn't mean much these days anyway, so who cares?

marriage is a human invention. god has nothing to do with it.

God himself instituted marriage in Genesis.
He also said that a man will stick to his wife as she to him being removed from family. They shall live together as one.
They shall teach their children to love God and practice his ways.
