Sounds like your cats were raised by a dog. I had one like that, and the little guy took 6 months to learn to say "meow", he even tried to bark!
Seriously, if your cats really do like to play in the water, you may have to learn to live with it. Just try to manage the splashing a little. Put the lid down on the toilet, lay an absorbent rug under the water dish, have towels ready for your cats when you shower (or shut the door). You may want to set up a small wading pool for them occasionally, for when they want to jump in and have a dip.
On the other hand, how many toys do your cats have? Toys don't have to be expensive for pets. Try a couple of small balls, with the bells inside. Rings off of milk jugs work well also. Once in a while, put a paper grocery bag on the floor, open. Cats love those, especially if you scratch at the back (of the bag). Try hanging a ball from a table or something with a piece of string, or flipping a ball around the room with a piece of string.
The more you interact and play with your cats, the less likely they will try to get into mischief while entertaining themselves.

I have a male cat that loves the garden hose and gets sad faced if I don't water the garden every evening. He wants me to spray him. He runs out into thunderstorms and plays. He loves a bowl of iced water in the afternoon in the summer. He is water obsessed. He wasn't this way until after he had run away for a year. He was gone from September 2005 until September 2006. He was outside during Hurricane Katrina and yet he doesn't fear storms, he loves them! Some cats are just water lovers.

Some breeds, like my Bengal cat, love to play in the water. I will put just enough water to cover the bottom of the tub and let him play in it. He even has his own squeak rubber duckie, lol. To keep them out of the toilet close the lid. Do they tip the water dish over or just splash the water out? If it is tipping over or moving, try using a heaver bowl. Mess goes along with having pets, I'm afraid. Film them and submit it to the Planets Funniest Animals, lol.

Don't forget to put the toilet seat down, close the bathroom door. give them a very shallow dish of water, and let them play in shallow water in the bathtub every once in a while.

Fill the bath with sulphuric acid..... that should stop 'em. But seriously. Some breeds love water, and you'll never get them to stop playing in it. I'd be tempted to look at this as a plus, and just watch, and laugh at them. Great entertainment, if you ask me.

two of my three are the same way. The one is bold enough to actually jump in the shower with me. I just deal with it, it's kind of funny if you ask me silly cats.
