Typical Woman!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo............
This is HIS property, up to him to say give them away.
How about you come home one day to find all your shoes etc etc, thrown out....
Ask first save an argument...

No sense in moving a bunch of stuff that you will never use; Goodwill is a great way to recycle stuff that you don't need anymore. Give him a phone call first to make sure there isn't any one suit that he is attached to, if so, set that one aside.
If you itemize on your taxes, make a list of the items donated and you can claim what the fair market value is (whatever Goodwill can sell them for) as a write off on your taxes.
It is also a great way to give back to the community; a person that might be able not otherwise be able to afford a suit that they need for an interview, work, or church or a thrifty teen girl that wants to refashion it into a new-wave style (I have seen them use old doilies, fabric paint and buttons and they look great!) will be able to buy one at a cost they can afford.

Well, it is his stuff. I would ask him (you wouldn't want him to get rid of your stuff while you weren't home without permission). If he says no I would purchase some storage boxes. Either the under the bed ones or some you could put in the attic or basement and store them. We use big plastic containers with snap-on lids for our seasonal clothes. Our closets aren't large enough for all our winter and summer clothes to be in there at the same time and it seems to be a good solution. The snap on lid plastic ones keep out dampness, mice or moths or anything else. I think they're the safest if you don't want your things ruined. If you are short on storage I would suggest keeping your blankets and extra sheets in them too. I do.

the only way to get rid of the suits is to get rid of the husband... i have the same problem with my wife, she collects stickers, clothes, shoes, flip-flops, fabric, yarn, old ties, cotton swabs.... practically everything, and there is no way to get rid of any of it... you probably want to hold onto the suits, because it will start a war. trust me i'm like you, i barely have anything, because of the spouse's stuff that consumes everything.
and i have to agree with others, yes the tax deduction at goodwill is great, but try salvation army instead... the tax deduction doesn't go a long way anyways when tax season comes, trust me i know, salvation army resonably prices their clothes, and they sell everything you donate, whatever they don't seel they give to the poor, yes those that cannot even afford sal-val prices, or those in foreign countries. All of the money sal-val makes goes to those in need... all the money goodwill makes goes to some CEO sitting on his/her rear-end all day.

You may want to change your approach in asking him about donating clothing to Goodwill. Explain to him exactly how Goodwill or the Salvation Army works. Explain to him that there are countless people out there that are desperate for clothes and can't afford them in regular stores. Explain to him that how good he would feel to know he donated his suits to a good cause and to know that he made another person's day a bit brighter. I donate quite frequently to the Salvation Army and I always feel good about helping others. We all need help from each other from time to time. It's always a good feeling to know that our contributions whether small or great is helping someone else out. It gives us a feeling of self worth and a good feeling that someone would appreciate what we have to offer another human being. After saying all these things first, he may just change his mind and deceide to donate his suits. Try and you may get good results from this. I hope this new approach works! Good luck to you!! I hope everything turns out for the both of you.

before you were to give them away without permission, put them up on ebay as a lot. then buy him something he wants or can use with the money. That would be better than just giving them away. But I do understand the pains of moving, I left an unbelievable amount of stuff behind when I moved. It's rough, good luck.

By all means give them away...but pick another charity. Goodwill rips off poor people and they are extremely picky about the donated items they accept. In our town ...they have an attended donation center and they go through all of your stuff and hand you back what they don't want. then they charge exorbitant prices for the things in the store.

i grew up with a family of pack rats, GET RID OF THE SUITS! if he has not worn them in 16yrs thats a sure sign hes not gonna miss them. plus if u are moving thats a few less things to pack. give them to someone who needs them and can use them.

Yup give em to good will,
but keep track of every thing that you give because the govt is giving a large credit for those donations. be very specific # of suits, shirts etc. They have assigned a value to everything based on info from ebay.........

I have a policy in my house when I clean and go thru closets, kitchen cupboards and kids rooms. If it hasn't been used or worn in the past six months, out it goes. Especially, if I am moving. Why take it with you?

It never hurts to give to help the less fortunate. I think it
would be a great idea to give the clothes he's not wearing
to Goodwill.
