I agree with every word you say - and I bet the vast majority do too.
However, you sound like you're letting yourself get a bit too wound up about it all. It's just not worth it.
Whatever you say, you can't win an argument with these people. In spite of all the evidence to the contrary, they "feel" that God exists, and so therefore he must do.

I can understand your questioning. I'm not sure why someone who believes in God would say he has no power over something. Certainly God would be all powerful - omnipotent.
Why does suffering exist? The Bible makes it clear that suffering exists because sin entered the world through Adam and Eve. Though this leads to many other questions, it would be a sufficient reason for suffering. However, I would also have a question too...why do people think that suffering disproves the existence of God? They seem to believe that if there is no God, than that is a reason for suffering? Isn't it possible that the suffering could be worse than it is now? Don't we also experience happiness, joy, etc.? Could that then, be used to prove that God does exists...for if He didn't, it would be a lot worse?
I think that line of questioning shows that it is hard to state whether God exists or not, simply on the presence of suffering. However, it is valid to ask, why does God allow suffering? The answers to this question are quite involved. But remember, that if God exists, He is all powerful and all knowing. It is clear, however, that we are not. We must always be careful to say "this should be like that" or "that should be like this", especially given the fact that we are so limited in strength and understanding.

Hi i am religious but don't belong to any organised religion, I believe the state the world is in today is created by us and has to be fixed by us,god isn't our mother that has to clean up our mess ,the lesson that we should be learning is there is only one world and we should all tolerate and love each other as we are part of one creation. Religion on the most part divide communities and the world ,when we care for the kids dying in Africa as much as our own we will be bringing the seeds of a better world to light.I believe in miracles and the power of prayer , why dont you post a question on this site getting as many people as you can to pray for your daughter at a certain time on a certain day and see if this helps then you can decide whether god is here with us i believe he is and we see him in kind gestures from strangers and , or someone saying something uplifting just at the right time. I have a little boy who has problems and has brain damage in a mild degree and i couldn't love a child more hes so loving and a joy to me a gift I'm very proud to have and my life just wouldn't have been the same if i didn't have him. god bless you and i would definitely love to hear how you get on with the prayer question lets face nothing to lose and lots to gain.

You have made excellent points, Baby Cake !! If jesus can turn water into wine (and was that an important thing for him to do?), or if he can take 5 loaves and 2 fish and feed 5,000 people, then why can't he take time out of his very busy schedule and feed the starving people of the world? Why can't he stop the wars? Why can't he take care of the homeless? Why didn't he answer the prayers of thousands of people who prayed that Hurricane Katrina would not harm New Orleans? The lists could go on and on.
But people have no real answers for any of this, except to excuse god by saying that he does his will according to his time and plan.
People need to wake up and smell the coffee, and Baby Cakes, you are doing a good job at waking up the people!

Why is okay for god to help Billy win his high school basket ball match but not help a starving child? I know what I'd prefer a god to do.
I like the plan/freewill conundrum myself.
God has a "plan" for each of us.
We have freewill.
Well if theres a "plan" then there can't be freewill otherwise what would be the point of the "plan"?
Perhaps we can ignore the "plan". They smugly dust their hands off.
Well now lets say little Jimmy gets run over and killed by Bob the satanist high on drugs ie not following gods "plan". You will be told Jimmy dying was part of "the plan". That involves Bob not following gods "plan" in the first place therefore not following the "plan" is part of the "plan" - which means there is no such thing as freewill.
I'm also not convinced how freewill comes into it when you're "free" to worship or not worship but if you don't worship then you will be sent to hell to be tortured for all eternity for not worshipping or not worshipping correctly - by a loving god.
This all makes sense to the average religious believer.

I am so sorry that you have a sick child, I cannot imagine what that must do to you. I have only one child, he is grown now and healthy but it would definitely be my most heart wrenching dilemma if he was sick. I am a nurse and the only answer that I can give you as a nurse and a Christian is this: people get sick, are born sick etc., we in the medical community do our best to help them get well, and God always answers prayer, sometimes the answer he gives us is just not the one that we want. Please be assured that he does love you and he is with you, as far as that testing you stuff, I don't hold to that theory. I think that sometimes things just are what they are.
I wish I knew more about your child's situation, I don't but I will pray for you and her and will ask that she receive healing and that you receive strength to deal with whatever your situation is.
Good luck and God bless you.
Let me share with you that while it is an entirely different situation, my mama just died, she had cancer and was suffering, so in a way her death was a relief to her and to us. I miss her so much and did ask the Lord to heal her many times. I believe that he answered my prayer by taking her home to theaven where she is now happy and whole and I will see her again. I cannot empathize from a parent losing a child stanpoint(if that's what you are facing) but I can empathize from losing my very best friend in the world, my nurturer, my support system no matter what, and the greatest person I have ever known.

If you notice, Jesus did the miracles when he was on earth and when he sent the 12 out, they did miracles, too. Normally God works through people. It takes faith and then action on the part of someone. For example the laying on of hands. Prayer is important.
You must be careful about how you pray, though. You may get what you want, and that may not be what you need or the best. Even in Jesus' day, not all were healed. Jesus himself said that in Elisha's time there were many starving widows, but he only helped one.
We don't always understand God, but His ways are higher than ours.
I don't believe your baby is being tested.

The fact that millions of people are starving is because God allows people to be greedy and evil. This is a divine Judgement because of evil sin. As far as you and your daughter it could be the Judgment of God for not serving Him. The curse of the Law for not believing in God who is Jesus. See Leviticus 26; Deuteronomy 28:15-68 Galatians 3:1-14 This is probably what you don't want to hear but I see you are getting tired of people not giving you a direct answer.

Why do you keep asking these questions if you don't want to hear the answers? I can't tell you that God waves a magic wand and makes everything better, He just doesn't work that way. All sorts of people get all sorts of bad things happen to them, sometimes the good people get the worst things, but its how you deal with it and get on with your life that matters. You can spend the rest of your life bemoaning the fact that you've been dealt a raw deal but God isn't going to step in and change it.I'm a bit confused as to if you believe in God or not. It seems that you want to believe but on your terms
Just to take one example used, yes Jesus did feed thousands with loaves and fishes. Why expect God to come and resolve our problems. The starving in this world are starving because of man's inaction and refusal to deal with the problem. There is no need for people to be starving if the rest of us got our act together.

God has power to do anything, but he gave us free will. This is what causes the world to be broken. God does the best with what he has (us), but he will not take away from our choice to do what we will. As far as child illness and undeserved hardship- I don't know, but I do know that if you seek to find an answer, you will find it. No testing is involved with God. I have no idea why someone would say that. Our sins are already paid for, we do not have to prove we are worthy, and you are not being punished, neither is your daughter.
Once again- I am really sorry for everything you are going through, I hope and pray that you will find your answer soon and that you can find peace.

You have valid points there and I knew some one would quote the bible at you. These bible quote rs have not read anything else and have had it shoved down their necks for centuries so therefore it is their God given right not to question anything that others see as the truth. They live eat and share the same crap from the same book and make loads of money from it yet help no one but fellow believers. I would say you are angry because of your child being ill but the bible bashers do not have the answer.
