No, it isn't. Under Sharia law, the stones used must be no larger than a date, no smaller than a chickpea. Reason, clearly, is to make the stoning a long-drawn-out agony, with no risk of the unfortunate victim being knocked unconscious. With luck, an eyeball or two may get dislodged well before death ensues.

Even if you believe in the death penalty (abolished in most civilised countries) no offence justifies such a savage and barbaric punishment.

Once stoned to death it is impossible to say 'ooops wrong person, sorry' so my personal belief is that no, it is not acceptable, but by the same system I do not believe that people should 'get off' on a technicality of law. Physical punishment should be hard manual work to benefit society, not just locked up in a cell with a television and/or books.

No, its not acceptable form of punishment. Basically, these type of punishments are in islamic countries, I have read one of the articles which goes like

"The punishment of stoning is prescribed by Almighty Allah (swt). It is part of His (swt) divine and perfect Sharia. All Muslims accept this."

This means that Islamic base is actually very barbaric if this article is right. Not only stone punshment, but other kind of punishements also like beheading, arm cutting, etc.

I dont think its acceptable at all even though it takes place in many parts of the world for adultery among other things. - it can never be right to punish someone with such brutal methods, its no better than the idiots in the middle east who kidnap foreigners for ransom then execute them in the most hideous fashion when their demands arent met. There are better ways to deal with the unruly, a spell in the army wouldnt go amiss who those with no direction in life
