Why the current fashion on TV of exclaiming 'Oh my God', as though God had just appeared before them? Most of the folks who do this wouldn't know God from Old Nick (as neither frequent Big Brother, Love Island or similar moronic programmes.)

Annoying isn't it.
If it isn't already, then it's fast becoming the most overused and most mis-understood phrase in history. Not even the 12 disciples said it more times the folks off BB.

I agree with the questioner. The 'Oh my God' (or written as 'OMG') is an Americanism that I find I want to scream at.
In a park (in the UK) I once saw to young American girls 'find each other.' Clearly they had not seen each other in a while.... Both threw back their shoulders, spread their feet wide apart, threw out their arms and 'waddled' towards each other 'SHRIEKING' "Oh - My - Gawd" (I assume they were New Yorkers!).
I was eardrum hurting, ugly and a nauseating spectacle.
PS: I'd like to vote for the Big Brother house to be used by the military for target practise - I occasionally stumble on it (ugh). As a token to my love of my fellow homosapiens, I would allow the occupants to be evacuated to Love Island (ugh-ugh) where they can breed with each other - after any / all TV cameras have been removed.

Just a silly fashionable fad phrase of the moment, I can just imagine god looking down on them and saying Jesus Christ will you give it a rest and come up with something new to say, sorry but god does have a sense of humour cause we wouldn't have all these stupid moronic programmes on TV otherwise, be happy.

A lazy mind. They can't think of saying anything else, so they pick one word and use it. I used to until I heard someone tell me that, so I practiced saying something else. It was suprisingly hard to stop ! I know say Oh Goodness. Doesn't roll off the tongue as well, but doesn't offend anyone either.
