Trust me, loads of conditioner, even a cheap shops own brand. Plaster the hair with it and leave it on as long as possible, at least 1 hour, makes the hair slippery and you can get the horrors out easier. It is important that you remove all the eggs, the white eggs that are further down the hair are dead so you dont need to worry too much about them. You also need a really fine toothed nit comb, i have 1 made by derbac, though im not sure if you can still get them. Now is the best time to get rid of the nits as the kids are on school hols and hopefully you will have a couple of weeks before they get them again. You will also need to get someone to check your hair as nits are passed directly from head to head contact. Best of luck.

Most head lice are almost toally resistant to modern chemical treatments. The best way to get rid of them is to use conditioner on your childrens hair and use a good quality nit comb. Do this every day for a week or two and they will go. Time consuming but it really is the only way to be sure these days. Also Tee Tree shampoo is said to help minimise reinfestation.

In Argos or a chemist you can buy a little machine that you comb through the hair and it zaps the nits it is very good and worked on my grandchildren they are not very expensive or an alternative is smother the hair in a conditioner and keep combing the hair with a nit comb repeat the procedure every couple of days and that will get rid of them too

If you don't want to use chemicals then your only option is to get a lice/nit comb and make sure you get every single one combed out of their hair. I know I saw a kit advertised on British TV that has different combs in it to help you not miss any. By the way, vingar poured over your kid's hair will not kill or remove the nits. And most of the chemicals they sell on the market now don't work anymore, lice have become resistant to them. This is a hard thing to deal with, I freak every time we hear that someone at my daughter's school was found with lice. Once you do get rid of the nits, try using styling products in your kid's hair to prevent them. My daughter's teacher told us that people who use a lot of mousse and hair spray tend not to get lice as easy as people who have product-free hair. I also read this from testimonials on-line. I don't know if it works or not, but I put mousse in my daughter's hair and give her a spritz of hair spray before she goes to school in the morning, just in case it might help. Good Luck.

Warrior has a good idea. When you have finished this put loads of brylcream or such stuff on their hair. it will rehydrate it but Nits and Lice HATE the stuff. It gums up their legs etc. If there are any that survive they will vacate the premises.

They have these nifty little electric lice combs that zap and kill lice, but are harmless to the child. But, and this is a big but, you have to use the comb several times a day, hoover the house, launder bedsheets, put soft toys in black bin bags for 1 month, and even then everything may not be 100% effective.
