Yes, an American can be recruited into the US military, even if he/she is overseas. There are military recruiters located at the larger installations, and you can go to www.goarmy.com to get in contact with an Army recruiter.
You would do your Basic and AIT in the US of A. There are no American training units overseas.
You will not have preference to be stationed overseas; HOWEVER, you can have it guaranteed to you (Army contract) to be stationed in an overseas location.

You cannot under US basic training overseas. As for the recruitment - you can speak with military personnel overseas so I guess you could be "recruited". I think when I was stationed in Italy they did have people speaking to the kids at the base HS.
Depending on which branch of service and which specialty you go into you could very well have your first active duty station overseas. Remember - just because it is where they "base" you doesn't mean you won't spend most of your time deployed elsewhere.

There is no place to go to basic-training over seas, but yes, you can enlist while overseas. I live in Italy where my husband is stationed, and some of the American kids over here have enlisted in the military after high school. They even have a phone number on AFN ( Armed Forces Network ) that advertises recruiters to call if you live here.

You can be recruited overseas. You would return to the States for Basic Training, and from there........................................ it depends. I recommend you talk to a recruiter (there are recruiting stations in Europe) and pose your questions to them. Word to the wise - if your recruiter promises from the bottom their heart that you will go to a specific place for your first duty station, or promises anything for that matter - don't believe it unless it's in writing in your contract.

you would attend basic training on US ground. for example...there are only 2 Marine bases in the US for marine recruit training, one being parris island, SC.
as for returning overseas after basic...well, they send you wherever they want to send you..especially when you are brand new. once you have been in for a while you can work the system a little bit more to try and get where you want to live.

if there is a draft they will find you no matter where you are unless you go underground. You would have to return to the states to train here. It is a federal offense to avoid the draft....if there is one.
