The religious mess was not there yet. He was called to initiate a faith community that will listen to God's instructions and depend on Him and become instrument in fulfilling His purposes. Today different groups try to own Abraham without having anything to do with Abraham's God.

Abraham was a Noahide - a follower of the seven noachide laws. The Jewish people were formed some 3 generations later, and if the History of Islam is correct, the Islamic faith was formed about 1000 years later

Abraham lived before Torah, but Torah wasnt recorded until 1400 BCE….. Meaning Jewish people are descended from Abraham, but it was Moses who first recorded the Torah in 1,400 B.C.E. So we may consider the date of the Torah as the beginning of Judaism!
So I agree with answerer right before me.. That Abraham was the founder of the three great religions of Mankind; Judaism, Christianity, and Islam...

He was a Christian like all the other prophets, AMOS, NOah, Isaiah, Jeremiah etc. He was called of God to teach the people about God and His Son's atonement. God personally taught him by the example of Isaac, when God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son in the similitude of His Only Begotten Son.

Kinda like Noah's I suppose. Just knowing that God is Good.
"There are three essentials of the church: acknowledgment of the divine of the Lord, acknowledgment of the holiness of the Word [Bible], and the life which is called charity" (Divine Providence n. 259[3]).
