More Catholics have to answer this question. It is about christening babies or blessing babies. You could try Google.

"There are three essentials of the church: acknowledgment of the divine of the Lord, acknowledgment of the holiness of the Word [Bible], and the life which is called charity" (Divine Providence n. 259[3]).

baptism is a saving ordinance which can be administered only by those who have the priesthood authority and it's administered when a person reaches the age of accountability. One must be baptized unto repentance for remission of sins by being fully immersed in water. Therefore, little children have no need to be baptized for they are pure and innocent before God. When grows up and starts making mistakes and develops faith in the Savior and repents, then he/she can be baptized to become clean. Baptism is completed by receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost by the administration of someone who holds the Melchezidek priesthood authority and then press forward keeping the commandments of God continually repenting. The Savior said, except a man be born of water and the Spirit he can not enter into the kingdom of God.

However, blessing a child is a different story. The father might have blessed the child or prayed for him/her or gave a name.. or something like that. It doesn't constitute a baptism, which an individual chooses after repenting. Even to bestow special blessings in the name of God, one must have that authority from JEsus Christ and His apostles.

hope it's clear.... contact me if needed.

Being baptized is the immersion by water, to go down under the water and come out as a new cleansed saint of God. Through the forgiveness of sin through Christ Jesus. Young children can be dedicated to a church, in other words the parents bring the child forward and it is like making a promise to raise the child in the knowledge of God. It doesn't matter what your church did or didn't do when a person comes of age they have to make a choice for God or not, to accept Jesus them self and to have a relationship with the father. Sounds like your friend needs to be saved. The bible says if you call upon the name of the Lord thou shall be saved. Just say ,"Jesus I love you and believe you died for me and I want you to come in to my life."

Baptism is necessary. It is agreeing & declaring that this person belongs to Jesus . It is like dying with him ( when the person goes under water) & then resurrected with his ( when the person comes out of water) then he receives Jesus triumph over the devil. Your friend must be baptised so that God bless him. God bless you for asking.

I don't know, it depends on what denomination the church was.
