MMA=Mixed Martial Arts. Most people say BJJ is what people use, and they are right in the respect that many people train in BJJ. However, BJJ was derived from Judo which was derived from different forms of Jiu-Jitsu. Aikido came from aiki-jiu-jitsu and other arts as well. If you have any real knowledge of the martial arts you will see that the techniques in one art are similar if not the same in many others. BJJ is the Gracie's because they took the techniques of Judo, which can require a lot of strength at times (that is why they have weight classes in Judo comps.), and modified them so smaller men could over come larger oppenents (watch early UFC fights with Royce). You can study in any respected grappling martial art, and if you learn well from a good teacher you could handle your own against BJJ fighters and other style of ground fighters.

Basically the best ground fighting position to be in is to have someone's back. To have your legs hooked in. From this position you can punch or choke and your opponent has no offensive capaibility. Next is top mount. From here you can reign down punches or submissions. The next position is side position. Although some think this is actually better than top mount. There are alot of submissions for here. The best defense is to stay out of these three by maintaining good base and controlling your opponents hips.

There's lot origin from that...
Arm Bar is used in Ju-Do, BJJ, Jujitsu, Akido.
Choke Sleeper(Back Mount Choke) is used in Ju-Do, BJJ, Jujitsu, Akido.
Guillotine Choke(Front Head Lock) is used in BJJ, jujitsu, Akido.
It's Illegal move in Ju-do, also in Wrestling.
Key Lock(Low key lock (Kimura) and High key lock(Americana)) is used in BJJ, jujitsu, Akido. We see this often in even pro-Wrestling even though it's not used in Ama- Wrestling .
And Many other Leg Submission(Hill Hold, Hill Lock, ankle Lock) is used in Akido, Jujitsu, BJJ. (Some tournament prohibit Leg Submission because it's easy to break leg. For that reason, any leg submission are prohibited in Ju-do)..
Spin-Choke: Antonio Rodrigo Nogehira First has done in Pride.
It's similar to 'Choking with holding Arm' in Ju-do.
I think Above Submissions are we see often in MMA.
And there's a lot more Submission tech. that has not been used(performed) in MMA and has been studied in Do-Jang(Gym).

The best ground martial art is Brazilian Ju-Jitsu. If you are interested in this, go and find a Gracie Ju-Jitsu club near you.
