I think he's fine...it's no sin to be shy in front of the opposite sex. In fact, I'd be very uncomfortable with a guy who's too chatty with girls.

maybe he's just shy...i mean...if you're separated in school...he's mainly hanging out with guys! ...if you have the hots for him or something...YOU make the move. or try to talk with him to become his friend.

maybe he is just shy and finds comfort when he is with his friends. when you see him try and he looks your way, smile at him...that will boost his confidence a little bit:)
