Don't give in to him. Put the cat food where he can't get it. When he's hungry, he will eat his own food.

There is a reason for having cat food and dog food. Their nutritional needs are different. Cat food is way too high in protein for dogs and can harm a dogs kidneys over time. Feed the cat where the pup can't get to the cat food. Put down a good brand of puppy food for 20 minutes three times a day. He may refuse to eat at first but hang in there, when he gets hungry enough he will eat. Tough love, it is for his own good. If you give in with treats, table food or cat food he knows he can win and not have to eat his own food.
Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. If you read the labels, cat food is usually higher in protein than most dog foods. This is why the dog wants it. But, it is not good for him to eat.
Put up the cat food. He probably won't eat for a day or two, trying to hold out for the cat food. Don't give in! Wait and he will start to eat the dog food.

Yeah my dumb dog does the same thing. If you take the cat food away your dog will eventually become hungry enough to eat the food. Or you could try mixing some cat food into the dog food so he will get a taste of each.

Ended up being she had Intestinal Bowel Disease that was too far gone. nothing I could do. Broke my heart and was still to this day the hardest thing I ever had to do but I had to put her down. She weighed 18 lbs when I brought her in. I really did try everything I could. I sent her to a emergency care clinic and they kept her for a week, inserted a feeding tube, I had her on steroids , changed her food, pain killers. Diarrhea was just pouring out of her even with no food. It was just heart breaking to watch my little girl dwindle away. I hope you have a better outcome. :( good luck

Call a Vet and tell them, also tell them that your puppy obviously likes cat food and ask if it's ok to let your puppy to continue to eat cat food. I have heard that it won't harm your puppy but growing puppies need the appropriate nutrition and cat food vs dog food (vice versa) has different ways to nourish your cuddly critter!
Just call a vet please....Id hope to hear what the Vet tells you. Good Luck.
oh! try these...

you can try to mix in some boiled beef or chicken meat in his food (: i wouldnt suggest putting cat food in his food because he'd get use to it and cat food isnt good for dogs, its too rich. (: If he refuse to eat just leave the dog food there and eventually he'll eat it, thats how my doggy was when she was little. (: i hope everything goes well. take care! <3
