Clearly there was a religion before there was written language, so the first wouldn't have even left a record for us! This is just a theory!
The claim here is that Adam had the oldest religion, which incidentally is consistently passed down through the Hebrew scripture!!

Abraham, The patriarch, lived around 1800 BCE, but Torah wasnt recorded until 1400 BCE….. Meaning Jewish people are descended from Abraham, but it was Moses who first recorded the Torah in 1,400 B.C.E. So we may consider the date of the Torah as the beginning of Judaism!

Some do believe that the first religion still in practice is Zoroastrianism. Others say that Hinduism is the oldest religion! I dont see those as religion as much as I see them as philosophies!

Another suggestion would be Aboriginals with evidence of their existence 40,000 years go.. but they had no belief on a singular god to my knowledge. They believed in animal spirits and what they did during a time called the dreaming!! So no!!

So I would go for Judaism!

And Islam is the Last one :)

Keeping in mind that all three; Judaism, Christianity, and Islam came from one God!

You folks are funny

Islam was invented in 621 CE by a desert marauder named Mohammed.

Christianity was invented in 90 CE by a Tarshishi merchant named Paul

Formal Judaism dates to 1200 BCE and the Prophet Moses

Informal Judaism dates to 1800 BCE and the Prophet Abraham

Prior to that various forms of paganism were dominant on Earth although according to scripture. Shem, Eber (his grandson) and Noah were all monotheists.

Torah, of course, pre-dates creation. Adam had 3 laws - take dominion over the earth, have children and don't eat of the forbidden fruit.

Noah got seven more - Prohibition of idolatry,
Prohibition of blasphemy, Prohibition of murder,
Prohibition of theft, Prohibition of illicit relations,
Prohibition of eating live meat,
Requirement to establish courts of justice.

For gentiles, the Noahide covenant is still in force making it the oldest religion on Earth.

Abraham got 603 (for a grand total of 613) other laws which came to be known as Judaism. Judaism is the oldest Abrahamic religion.

Christianity was an attempt to reconcile Judaism with the pagan mystery cults of the Hellenic world.

Islam was an attempt to reconcile monotheism with Arabian paganism.

In the Talmud there is a saying - "There is no beauty like Jerusalem, no wealth like Rome, no magic like Egypt and no depravity like Arabia" and this was centuries before Islam.

Paganism, aka Nature Worship. Though it wasn't a religion per se, it was just more of a belief. Kind of like Atheism isn't a religion, but rather a belief.

Judaism was probably the first ever structured religion.

what ever was the first traditional practise.
Probably a custom related to the bringing or keeping of fire.

this is would have been older than 9000 years.

in my opinion, passing on knowledge of the world, and creating a sense of unity was the purpose of religion. People quickly saw the power this gave them other the multitudes and so took advantage of it. which has inturn spurned new religions, who end up doing the same thing.. and on and on it goes.

First humans evolved out of Africa and most likely were of nomadic nature with no religion. They then, it seems, migrated to central Asia, Europe, Asia. Some of these nomadic tribes may have developed Pagan culture.

Paganism which may have formed the basis of vedic culture which eventually came to be known as Hinduism. At one stage spread from parts of Europe to the south and south east Asia.

The other faiths subsequently spread and wiped out the original faiths in Europe and mid east.

The first religions were polythiestic. The people attributed Gods to natural phenomonon (like the rising and falling of the sun, movement of waters, weather, etc.). As humans understanding of their enviroment changed so did their Gods.

There was a relationship with God then people went astry & everybody invented his own religion. Judaism was the first true religion aiming at conserving people from mingling with evil, and having a real relationship with God. Till they went astry themselves. God has to come by himself on earth to save his people ( Yahushua or Jesus ) was God's word incarnated to save & redeem his people.

Currently the oldest religion around today is Hinduism. However depending on how you define 'religion' and how you classify modern man anthropologically then we probably worshiped/'deified' nature...The sun, the moon etc.

Let me tell you something that will astonish you i know that you may not understand but god created us only to worship him, and created the earth because of profit Mohammad only.

also you should know that Allah sent a profit or a messenger to every nation and every one of them said that Mohammad will come after him ...so at the end god will not accept any religion from people but Islam.
and people is created on their nature Muslims but your parents who make you Christian or Jews.... etc.
and let me tell you also that Muslims believe in all the profits before Mohammad and we don't curse them.

In the beginning was the Word...

John 1
1-2 The Word was first,
the Word present to God,
God present to the Word.
The Word was God,
in readiness for God from day one.

God was there before religion tried to "define" Him in humanly understandable terms.
