concussion is a head injury and contusions are bruises. Here is some more info from wikipedia.org

Concussion, or mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI), is the most common and least serious type of traumatic brain injury. A milder type of diffuse axonal injury, concussion involves a transient loss of mental function. It can be caused by acceleration or deceleration forces, or by a direct blow. Concussion is generally not associated with penetrating injuries.

Bruise ICD-10 S00 - S90
ICD-9
A bruise or contusion or ecchymosis is a kind of injury, usually caused by blunt impact, in which the capillaries are damaged, allowing blood to seep into the surrounding tissue. They often induce pain but are not normally dangerous. Sometimes, however, bruises can be serious, leading to hematoma, or can be associated with serious injuries, including fractures and internal bleeding. Minor bruises are easily recognized by their characteristic blue or purple color in the days following the injury.

The word "bruise" is also used for fruit — a fruit is considered bruised when an impact breaks its internal water-containing structures, leading to a soft spot. More generally, "bruise" is used metaphorically to mean any minor injury: one's ego might be "bruised" if one's painting was not included in a gallery showing, for example. The implication is that the injury is painful but minor and will recover on its own.

The presence of bruises may be seen in patients with platelet or coagulation disorders. Unexplained bruising may be a warning sign of child abuse or serious medical problems, such as leukemia and meningoccocal infection. Anybody with unexplained bruising needs urgent examination by a doctor.

The extent of bruising depends on many factors. The state of the tissue (tensed muscle versus relaxed muscle, for example) can make a large difference, as can the effect of being crushed against underlying bone. People also vary in the sturdiness of their capillaries — some people bruise more easily than others. A deficiency in Vitamin C can make a person more susceptible to bruises.

Contussion is bruising of the brain parenchyma. The majority of them occur in the frontal and temporal lobes. Multiple low density areas and punctate hemorrhages will be noted on the CT of the head. Complications may include cerebral edema and transtentorial herniation. The goal of treatment should be to treat the increased intracranial pressure. The prognosis is guarded.

A milder type of diffuse axonal injury, concussion involves a transient loss of mental function. It can be caused by acceleration or deceleration forces, or by a direct blow. I see them slightly different but feel it may almost be semantics. Seems in my Spiritual life the mean the same. Faith is not hope to me, hope is hope. Faith is that I know all is working toward my coming to Remembrance no matter what my Human assessments may be or what it feels like. In my Human relationships, I can have a relationship where my "trust" has been broken, & still ultimately have faith in that person knowing within they are the same as me. Trust very often is a judgment based on past experience, theirs & mine. Faith goes much deeper, it has nothing to do with the intellect but comes from the Wisdom of the Heart. A simple gift given to another, "I have complete faith in you" will very often help to release the bonds of past mistakes. I feel I may not have explained this well, the difference is subtle. But this was a great Q! You had me pondering this for 2 days. Many Blessings!

Concussion can be caused by the same.
