pray for him and god for his forgiveness, its not bad that he doesn't want to go, but as long as he has people like you praying for him it'll be fine.... look to the dawn for my sheep will find me there

Your father drinks as an outlet b/c most likely he's lost faith in everything else. (That's the reason most people drink.) You can't throw a live chicken in the skillet, it's not ready to be cooked! There are steps to try to help bring your father's faith out, but asking him to go to church is a pretty big thing if you aren't actively religious. I know your intent is to reach out to your father. But with a drunk, you have to take smaller steps. See if you can convince him to take part in another activity with you...just so long as it's something that he has to do sober.
Sometimes if you can just get a drunk sober long enough, they realize what they are doing to their life. If you can get him sober when you're going to do something together, you can bring up the subject of his faith. Don't push him, or he'll automatically just yearn for the comfort of his bottle b/c that's what he's used to now. Approach the subject with ease, and hopefully you can work him up to going to church.

Contact your local chapter of AA, and they will be able to steer you to a group for children of alcoholics. You can't force your Dad to go to church. He is an alcoholic and he needs treatment but not in church. Get help for yourself (support) and leave your Dad alone. He hasn't admitted that he has a problem and until he does, there is NO help available for him.

You cant get a drunk to do anything but have another drink. He will go if and when he wants to. You should attend Al Anon meetings for teens. They are very helpful. Its for kids of alcoholics. m

Tell him that he's allowed to drink the sacremental wine. That will get him inside. Then you should handcuff him to a pew and make him stay for the entire service.
Or else you could mind your own business.

just go without him if ya can
it would appear he does not have the same values as you
so you do what you do and let him do what he wants
that is unless its self hurt or something
