DON'T PUSH IT. This will come naturally in time. Just use patience and lots of it! LOL

We made the mistake of pushing our older son when he was 3. It took us until he was 9 or 10 to get him out of pull-ups at night.

Our younger child we waited until he was 4 and was trained right away with rarely an "accident" during the night.

Kids will let you know when THEY are ready.

If you are going to use a REWARD, try not using candy use fruit or stickers or books. Something that isn't fattening or loaded with sugar.

I don't have a 3 year old but I helped with a 2-3 year old willfull neice who dreaded the throne. It helped when her mom baught a small one her size and she was rewarded initially for using it. One was kept in her room, and in all the bathrooms and when ever she was succsessful at using it she was rewarded for getting there before going in her diaper or all over the bed. Also her mom baught a make shift one that she could on the bigger toilet so that she could feel like a grown up in a way... she even got a little stool that she could climb to get to it... eventually if payed of and she was pretty much doing it on her own before she turned 3....ofcourse she has another little girl about to go through the same thing... so the saga is to be continued lol... good luck, hopefully something here will help.

Buy butterscotch candy. Its sugar free and perfect for this. While your in the bathroom going, lay out a piece on the top of the toilet when sons not watching. When you are done act excited about the potty fairy coming and let him see you put the candy in your mouth. Act like it is the best in the world and make off hand comment about the reward being for big boys who use the potty. I did this with two children and both were potty trained in a week.

My 3.5 year old not only refused to use the potty, he refused to discuss the issue, to talk about it, to be bribed. We were at our wit's ends. Letting it slide and waiting until he was ready was not really an option, as I had to put him into school, and they only take trained kids.... Finally, I decided to do just that - wait - and put him in a younger groups if I had to.... I only had to wait two weeks before he told me that he was ready to train - on his terms. We have never looked back since then except to say that we are glad that we waited.

If you choose to do so, you have to be firm with yourself to not attempt to train him until he says he is ready. Pack away the potty or toilet chair, but keep the books out. Mention to him once that you will wait until he is ready to learn like a big boy etc.

Best of luck!

If he will not cooperate no matter what you do, he's not ready for it.
You have to wait until he's ready.
You can sit him on the toilet several times a day on a schedule so he gets the idea.
But if he's not ready to use "the throne" then you've got to wait it out and keep trying.

Mine was three when he got potty trained. I bribed him with suckers. Told him everytime you pee in potty you get one sucker, you poop in potty you get five suckers. Worked like a charm. Good luck.

children work on their own schedule. if they are not ready then dont push it. it will happen when they are ready. every child is different so try not to to compare your child to other children, your child is just as unique as the next one..that is the best part about having kids!!!
