No ships with 3 captains. That is true if we are talking about 3 persons. If I say that you are kind, intelligent & generous does this make you 3? God is omnipresent ( the fathert) utters with his word( jesus) & alive with his soul( the holy spirit) that doesn;t make him 3. I suggest you read the following: http://www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/edn-t002.html

The teaching of the Bible concerning the Trinity might be summarized thus. God is a Tri-unity, with each Person of the Godhead equally and fully and eternally God. Each is necessary, and each is distinct, and yet all are one. The three Persons appear in a logical, causal order. The Father is the unseen, omnipresent Source of all being, revealed in and by the Son, experienced in and by the Holy Spirit. The Son proceeds from the Father, and the Spirit from the Son. With reference to God's creation, the Father is the Thought behind it, the Son is the Word calling it forth, and the Spirit is the Deed making it a reality.

We "see" God and His great salvation in the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, then "experience" their reality by faith, through the indwelling presence of His Holy Spirit.

One captain. 3 separate and distinct functions. As Master of the ship, as Crew Member, as Engineer. Makes a perfectly run ship to me! lol

The Trinity is not fully understandable to the limited, mortal mind.
Some explorers saw the peaks of three islands over the horizon. As they got nearer they saw that it was, in fact, one island and so they named it Trinidad (I'm sure you know that tri = 3).
So with the Trinity. Three yet one. I don't pretend to understand but I do believe.

Exactly, there aren't one ship with three captains. They are one. Perhaps this metaphor will help. If you take three matches and strike then together in a bunch you have one flame.
