Note: Car did not come with one from the factory.

No, this is not possible. The design of an airbag system is specific to the exact model of the car. If it wasn't installed at the factory, it cannot be retro-fitted.

You would be liable (in America, anyway) after you sold it to someone else if you're the one that customized or replaced an activated one. The airbags are expensive and oftentime the only thing stolen from a parked vehicle.
