For example, if you were to say to your Christian friend that his girlfriend was cheating on him, he would emphatically ask, "How do you know? Prove it." But if you were to claim that an omnipotent being created the universe and punishes nonbelievers with fire, he would agree without question.

In essence, why do claims about the material world require material evidence when religion requires none?

There is no way to prove things that are not of this world. I guess the closest you can come to something in the physical world to the supernatural is proof of air. You believe there is air because you see the results of it, you feel it as you breathe in and out and science tells you it is there. But could you truly prove it beyond that? So why is not the results (our existence) of God's creation and that we are told within ourselves that he is there, enough? I would also challenge such a question with, prove God doesn't exist. Also believing in evolution requires just as much faith as believing in God. there is no way to prove that this fish was once different. Is it not possible that all creatures were just always there too? No matter how similar? And Remember using scientific dating and such as proof first assumes evolution is a fact, so is it concrete evidence? Not that I am anti-evolution. I am Christian and I believe that God could have created through the process of evolution.

Because when it comes to matters such as their own mortality, some people would rather believe what they would *like* to be true rather than what is actually the case, and therefore the idea of actually testing their beliefs is anathema to them - After all, they might actually come to realise that their beliefs are nonsense, and that wouldn't do at all, so they go through life with blinkers on.

Because there is no proof to support God belief.

In regards to the analogy about air, air can be measured by anyone regardless what he believes. Thermometers and barometers can be observed by anyone without special rituals, talents or beliefs.

There is nothing to support God belief other than God belief.
