Erikson's theory is about psychosocial crises that everybody inevitably goes through, with either a positive or negative resolution. Developing cognitively and progressing normally through Piaget's stages will aid in positive resolution of Erikson's crises. As far as how they're different, besides referring to different types of development, It's impossible to avoid Erikson's crises; they're like roadblocks that you'll hit eventually. Piaget's stages of development aren't inevitable. It's expected that everyone will progress through them at an appropriate, and considered unnatural if you don't, but they're not inevitable.
