You'll want to spend time in the Sultanahmet area. The Hagia Sophia, The Sultanahemt Mosque (everyone else calls it the Blue Mosque, the Turks don't). If you go to Topkapi, and you should, the porcelain alone is worth the stop not to mention everything else, go to the Harem too. It's totally worth the $7 extra. You may have to wait in line for a bit, if you are travelling with someone, you can trade off holding spots in the line. Right next to the Hagia Sophia is an underground Roman Cistern that's cool to see for a couple of bucks. You can also wander around the Hippodrome and see the Roman ruins.

Across the bridge, go to the spice market. Also if you get a chance (if you are a man) go to football match at Galetasaray stadium, they were out of the country when I was there playing the hated Real Madrid, so I missed them, but I hear it's a wild experience.

I agree with the comment to avoid some of the nightclubs in Takshim, ask the prices of drinks before you buy them (I ended up, much to my chagrin, spending $165 on 4 drinks with two Ukranian hookers at a clip joint - I didn't want the hookers and I'm a careful traveller, I felt really stupid).

The Grand Bazaar - Loved the one in Bursa, Instanbul's was a bit much for me.

It's a beautiful city and a lovely place to visit.

Go to the Istanbul musuem and check out the Quran written in the time of the 3rd caliphate of Islam, Usman (some 15-25 years after Muhammed).

Well all the big sights are good: Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia, Topakopa Palace. I hated the Grand Bazaar, tourists who don't know how to haggle have ruined it. If you go to Topakopa go after to Dolmabahçe Palace. It is such a contrast.

Taxim for night life but if you are a guy beware of strip clubs they scam tourists. If you are a girl don't even bother going to Turkey with out a guy.

The food is the best thing in Turkey though. Try the cozy pub on Sultanahmet road just a couple blocks fromt he Blue mosque. They are nice guys and they have good Mixed grill.

Lots of things to do. Visit Topkapi Palace, Haci Sophia, Blue Mosque and the Undergrpound Sistern which are all on the same area. Second day you can visit either Dolmabahce Palace in Besiktas on the European side or Beylerbeyi Palace which is on the opposite side of Bhophorus on the Asian side. They both same kind of palaces, one winter, the other one summer palace.
You should to go to Kumkapi for having fish and Turkish dancers, it is a touristic area that is why check the menu prices first for not having any surprise. Go to Grand Bazaar and do not make shopping because it is much more expensive than local shops. You can also go to Princess Islands which is just 1,5 hour boat trip from Eminonu and it is great in summer with horse carriage cars and nice seaside restaurants. If you like clubbing you van go to Ortakoy, Bebek area there are really trendy clubs like Reina, Sortie.. If you just like pub kind of places you can try Taksim there are lots of them from rock bars to English Pubs. If you have any other question or need help you can send me an e-mail. Hope you enjoy your time.

They have pretty much summarized it but there is also the Underground cistern. And whoever said that DO NOT GO TO TAKSIM for nightlife. They have bunch of cheezy bars. Real Clubs are spread out around the city mainly in Ortakoy. Reina, Laila, Havana to count a few.

Heck no! the adult males theory you have been stable finding. The observe you're probable finding for is "masallah", it quite is a compliment if a guy says that to you. i assume the yankee equivalent could be like a guy passing you on the streets and asserting "God she's appropriate!" or "ooh, she's so large!" And no. you weren't disrespecting each and every guy or woman. Turkey is in simple terms as modern-day because of the fact the different international locations and you do not might desire to placed on a scarf or something like that. So, you're ok :)
