I always hear the debate between evolutionists and creationists as being between Atheist and Christian/Catholic groups. But where do other religions fall into place? What do Muslims believe about the origin of life and our universe? Or Hindus? Or Taoists? Or Purple- Robed- Tamborine- Jingling- Belly- Dancers?
You get the idea...Creation or evolution - what's the vote from other religions?

Just checking if I'm reading the votes right here:
Islam is for Creation Theory
Buddhism is for Evolution
Judaism is in between
Purple -Robed -Tamborine -Jingling - Belly -Dancers are marching to the beat of their own drum/tamborine.
Very interesting responses, thanks to everyone. Keep it coming...

But please be clearer in some of your answers. State the religion you're coming from and the position you take for or against either evolution or creation. Some answers are just confusing (ie. "They can." Huh?)

Science says it's evolution. But Science only explains things which are already there. like the functioning of an atom....is that all.
The moment you think that why an atom function the way it is, what or who makes it function it the way it functions....All these questions lead us to only one conclusion...there is a supreme power without whom nothing was possible...especially life.
Science will make things that were simple and freindly to life more complex...and will eventually lead life to it's elimination.
In fact it has led us far enough in this direction.
I'm a Hindu, and being a Hindu gives me enough freedom of choice in chosing my philosophy. There are no fixed parameters for limiting my philisophical thoughts. We accept all explanations with the feeling that there might be some truth in it....that's it.

While some Protestant groups reject Evolution, the Catholic church is in support of it as a scientific theory.
I've read also that the Dali Lama is a big supporter of science when it conflicts with religious teachings. He tells a story of looking at the planets through a telescope and seing images that contradict his religious teachings. Because those specific teachings have very little effect on the spiritual aspect of religion, he supports rejecting the traditions that don't accurately describe our world.

Muslims believe that everything in existence is created by the Almighty Creator we call Allah. So evolution does not fit into our belief. In fact, evolution does not fit with the findings of modern science. This can be seen with the advent of the "intelligent design" concept. Evolution is just an excuse for ignorant people to refuse to believe the existence of an ultimate Creator which not only creates but sustains its whole creations. Why couldn't Gods method of creation have been evolution?
I mean, 7 days in God's world might be way different from 7 days on earth, just like the differences in time from one planet ot another. God is bigger then all of the universe... I think his/her days might appear longer than ours from our perspective. Infact our intire existance on earth has likely not even been a day in God's world. Not only that... but christians are using a very poorly translated twice version of a very rich text that is over 2000 years old. Can we even be sure that it was really meant to read "on the first day" ?

I think that there are groups of people from every religion that are more educated and intellectual and find themselves looking at the evidence of an old Earth and evolution on some scale. But mind you, most religions as a rule would not support this thinking. If it is not in their religious books then it didn't happen. That is about all the majority think. But there are always exceptions in every group.

Denial. Closed minded. maximum do no longer even difficulty to look on the data and actual study it. as against Atheist might decide for to study a piece of writing or e book this is claiming or attempting to tutor a God. additionally, in maximum circumstances, they do no longer look to be as knowledgeable with the aid of fact they do no longer even difficulty and basically carry on with their God made each little thing, it is interior the Bible and that's the tip. Fever Ray: you're being closed minded! Oh basically with the aid of fact the government makes use of a few strains of religion it is with the aid of fact it is authentic. Fail! the government knows and save many stuff removed from us and retains us busy with web pages like those and tv. they could be responsive to extra of the possibilites of a God present, do you think of that they had actual need us to be responsive to even after the international has thought there ought to be? No. they think of it retains many from committing crimes and being undesirable. definite even however many have killed for or with the aid of fact of their God... further: definite faith and evolution contradict themselves!!! God suggested interior the Bible that he created the heavens and the earth and Eve got here from Adam's ribs. So why might he go away out something so super as evolution? He made all people and animals, they did no longer evolve from one yet another. in accordance to evolution we developed we weren't in basic terms made via a diety.

It is accepted in the buddhist school I am in.
Everything is evolving. I don't know about other buddhist schools.
We even believe in dinosaurs!!
Evolution is not a real debate. It happened.
The order or history of evolution could be argued though.
Origin of life remains undisclosed. But I'll keep you posted.

Actually, the official stance of the Catholic Church is that humans evolved from monkeys and the creation stories in Genesis are not literally true.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of Catholics who don't know that.

Unlike christians, most other eastern and western philosophies are open minded and the concept of evolution isn't intimidating given the scientific proof.
