They used to remove children's tonsils as a common practice back in the day. As far as a child of 21 months, I would definitely consult your physician/pediatrican.

Having tonsils removed is safe - but your doctor may not recommend having it done just yet. It may be a phase she's going through.

I feel for you - you feel so helpless, don't you? I remember when my son had it as a toddler - wouldn't eat or drink, and I was beside myself.

Go by what your GP recommends. But the answer to your question is that a tonsilectomy is a safe proceedure - but, like any other surgery, should only be undertaken when there's a real need.

there are pros and cons of having a toncillectomy, especially if it occurs frequently (m not sure what is frequent or no thought)

the complication of frequent tonsilitis is heart disease..there are (a lot actually) cases that a patient dies because he didnt have it removed..

but removing tonsils will make your child more vulnerable to other virus.. coughs, colds, etc. the virus passes through the tonsils first before you actually acquire the actual disease..but a constant vitC supplement will help you fight these viruses..

of course, the best option is still to consult your doctor (and u should already know that)..

:)

I'd consult with a homeopath or acupuncturist first and see if there is some other way to find a cure. Removing tonsils doesn't always solve problems and can lead to other symptoms instead

Speak to your pediatrician before you do anything.
Normally though, its at least 6 tonsillitis infections over a period of a year. The pediatrician will refer you to an ENT specialist who will also determine the correct course of treatment.

anyone that has a medical procedure done has some risk. but if it outweighs her having tonsillitis many times a year for the rest of her life. then it is worth it. that is very painful. if your doctor suggests it, then it may be a good idea.
