I think that infants sleep more time than they are awake. Usually they will sleep in intervals where they are up for a few hours then nap for a few hours all day and night. They need to be fed 24 hours a day in 4 to 6 hour intervals. I'm not sure of the time frame but I believe this will go on for the first 2 months before she can balance out into sleeping for longer periods at night with a small nap durring the day. And even then she may still need feeding in the middle of the night.

It's easy, just make her do what you want her to do lol. I am kidding. Don't let her sleep for long periods during the day. Get her used to a morning nap, and an afternoon nap. Depending on when she wakes up in the morning, you'll want to keep her up about 3 hours or so, let her sleep about two, keep her up about three, let her sleep for two, then keep her up for four then it should be to bed for the night. I am guessing she's between one and two months old since you didn't say, and that is usually when this issue comes up the most. It will probably take up to two weeks for the changes to become routine and everyone to settle into it, but any little thing can disrupt it, so tell her to make sure that she does not keep the house quiet when the baby is sleeping, especially during the day. She does not want the mailman ringing the bell to wake her up. I vacuum next to my kids beds when they are napping and get no response. Also, a white noise maker or low radio would probably be useful for nighttime. If she is used to complete silence any noise will wake her up which means no night time fun for mama and papa. Good Luck

There will be a couple of hard days but she can't let the child sleep during the day. Take her out and make her play when she gets sleepy in the daytime. At night the house should be completely silent and dark. Also, pray! I know what sleep deprivation feels like and I hope things get set right soon for her.

it really depends on the age of the child. Newborns to 6 months are tough to regulate. After 6 months if you start keeping them up longer in the day time and establish a set bedtime routine it gets easier to acclimate them to your schedule.

She can start by waking the baby up at a certain time, extending the time between naps and waking the baby up earlier than normal. Nothing extreme, maybe 20-30 minutes at a time. Each day she can do this until the baby is taking only one or two short naps during the day.

At 3 weeks, it's pretty common for infants to do that. That's one of the big reasons why the first months with an infant are the hardest. It will get better in time. Getting some bright natural light in the morning can help. An infant that age shouldn't be in direct sun, but being outside in the shade works.

In the morning don't let her go to sleep, play with her until is time for her bottle and let her go to sleep only for 1hr and 1/2.Wake her up and play with her until it's time again for her bottle.Keep doing this until she gets use to it.before her bottle at night take her a warm bath and she will get the hang of it. It's just time before you know it.

3-week-olds sleep a lot...is she actually up for significant amounts of time at night, besides eating? I would recommend cosleeping; a lot of babies sleep more soundly and for much longer stretches that way. That might help if the baby's days and nights are mixed up.
