We play Monopoly and Checkers a lot. I always win and I never let them beat me. Should I start letting them win, so they will gain confidence and not feel so bad?

Well I think its cool that you play monopoly as an uncle with your nieces. I think it depends upon the ages, stages they're at. I think in kids who are 12 years old and up, its okay to play fair, win every game. That teaches them about life, life isn't fair right? However, if your nieces are young, smaller than 12 years old, I would let them win every once in awhile, it'll be good for thier self-esteeem!!! It'll make you feel good for helping them to feel good too. You sound like a great uncle! Enjoy it all!

It might be okay if every now and then, you let them beat you for a little confidence booster. But kids need to be realistic, and understand that you are older and more intelligent. They should strive to be that way. You don't want them feeling sorry for how dumb you are b/c you can't even beat a kid, right? haha. Seriously though, play fairly, but stiff competition only makes them strive to be that much better. Like I said....couldn't hurt to let them win every now and then though. Always losing sucks no matter what your age.

Just let them win a few games then beat them all over again.

Don't let them win, but teach them the strategies you use to beat them. If you just let them win, they will know you are lying. Talk to them about why you move a certain way or why it's better to buy Park Place than Illinois Ave.

The title of this question sounded scarier than what your question really is... Yeah why not let them win a game or two. But you must be prepared because this is their first time winning but, they will rub it in and for days later, bring it up.

Thank god for that- from the title of our question I thought you meant physically beating them.

I reckon you should let them win once in a while- but not all the time. They have to learn to lose, as later on in life it'll happen all the time.

Lol, when I first read the topic title, I thought the post would be about physical abuse. Apparently not. :P

Mmm... Letting them win from time to time might be good, but if you gave them a few pointers as to where to move, what piece of property they should have bought, etc., that'd help them improve their game as well.
