first is the job at a male or female institute, female, than no problem, if male, get ready for the sexual harassment from staff and inmates, they say it doesnt happen but it does, worked at the local prison for more than 10 years. Women tend not to last long, those that do are strong willed, or sleeping their way to the top. physically, i seen inmates overpower a female, but same goes for a male, it all boils down to how you carry yourself. Treat the inmate as a person and remember they have nothing to lose and all they have while locked up is their pride. Dont go in there expecting to kickass attitude all the time and you nine times out of ten will go home without yours being kicked....

Not at all...my son works as a corrections officer at a federal prison and there are no physical requirements aside from passing the courses and qualifying for a position. He did go thru the police academy first...which would benefit you because you will learn great self defense tactics since you are petite. Good Luck to you

You might want to consider this. Imagine you are trying to gain physical control of a very large combative inmate and someone your size showed up as backup, how would you feel? I just finished up a 27 year career in corrections, and personally, I hated being placed in that very situation. It got me hurt several times. Do you really think its fair to another corrections officer that you are unable to provide adequate aisstance, due to your diminutive size, and the other officer gets hurt? I don't. Why don't you consider another line of work where your size is not an issue?

No, i don't think of females might desire to paintings as corrections officers. it quite is the character of the interest. I envision it would be greater complicated for a woman to subdue a male criminal if a topic arose the place this mandatory to be accomplished. i'm not asserting all females are incapable; there are some burly ones obtainable that would desire to actual project a guy bodily...yet many times, they are incapable. possibly they might desire to not bar females fullyyt, yet extremely place strict actual standards on the interest.

I work at a supermax prison. About one fourth of our officers fit your description. They do a very good job. As long as you follow all the rules you'll be fine.
