How do you drink absinthe?
There are two words to describe absinthe: strong and bitter. The alcohol content in absinthe ranges from 60%-90% so do not drink it straight. You will definitely regret it. The best way to drink absinthe is diluted with water with some added sugar. You can use either the traditional or the Czech method.
Traditional Method : Pour absinthe into a glass until it is about 1/5 full. Place a sugar cube on an absinthe spoon and rest the spoon over a glass. A fork can be substituted in place of the absinthe spoon but this looks somewhat ghetto. You will not want to use this improvisation in view of any girl you are trying to impress so invest the $10 and get an absinthe spoon. Slowly pour cold water over the sugar cube and into the glass until it is a 4 to 1 ratio with the absinthe. Stir the contents of the glass and witness the green fluid turn a milky white in a process called louching. This occurs because the essential oils in absinthe do not mix with the water.
Czech Method: Set up in the same manner as the traditional method but pour the absinthe over the sugar cube into the glass instead of straight into the glass. Now set the sugar cube on fire and allow the all the melted sugar to flow into the glass. Proceed by pouring the water and stirring. The caramelized sugar adds a tang and you can’t beat the presentation.
Alternatively, absinthe can also be used in various cocktail recipes. Try them in jello shots as well.

OK... good question. I have had both the 70% and the 80% absinthe and I will tell you that I have never had any hallucinations, nor has anyone else I know who has tried absinthe. Since it has such a high level of alcohol, it can get a person quite drunk quite fast. This in combination with cigarettes or other drug may cause a high. But keep in mind that there are different types of absinthe. It is mostly a spirit distilled from wormwood, anise, grain alcohol, cane sugar and water. If your bottle has the word "ABSINTHE" on it, it is an anise spirit, made in the European Union, such as Rodnik's Absinthe from Spain. If your bottle has the word "ABSINTH" on it, it is the real deal from the Czech Republic. Again, it usually comes in 70-80% strength. There is both "green" absinthe and "black" absinthe. The movie "Eurotrip" has increased sales of Absinth (or Absinthe) with its hallucinations of a green fairy, but I have never met anyone who actually had them. In fact, Absinth is sold in Prague with the label "The Green Fairy" in English to get everyone to buy it. Just a marketing ploy for yet another drink that tastes of licorice but is a lot stronger. Personally, I prefer an espresso and Sambuca or Anis, but that is just me. All the best Antonio

French traditional way :
Place slotted spoon over glass. Then place cube of white sugar on the spoon. Pour one shot of absinthe over it. Then pour icy-cold pure (distilled water) over sugar. Stir and drink.
Czech Flambe way :
Same as above, but light the cube of sugar before pouring the water.
Old Victorian way :
As above, but before lighting the cube, laudanum is usually added to the cube of sugar. Laudanum is not easy to get because it is actually a painkiller (medicine) used during that time. And it is OPIUM based.
Other ways :
1.Straight shots with sugar coated on the glass rim.
2. I have seen some using the opium glass to drink absinthe.
3. Drop one shot of absinthe (the glass as well) into a jug of lager beer and bottoms up.
For me, I like the Czech way or mixed with a sweet cognac/brandy.
Real absinthe is still totally banned in USA. In Europe, EU legal limit for the thuyone (extracted from wormwood) content is 10mg per litre. However, if you go to Spain and Czech Republic (these 2 countries does not give 2 hoots about the EU ruling), you can the original absinthe, with about 30mg to 100 mg per litre. The main thing about absinthe is not he alcohol content, but rather the thuyone content. The more thuyone, the more you will be like Van Gogh. Thuyone has a similar (not the same) molecular structure as THC, which is found in cannabis.
Good Luck. Don't over do it.

The best way is the way I was taught on a recent rugby tour to the Czech Republic.
soak a teaspoon of sugar with absinthe and then light it when the sugar has caramelised stir it into a quarter of a pint of water. Tehn and some more absinthe and either down it or sip it depending on how quickly you want to get drunk.
BTW you will get drunk...very drunk!!!

Poured over a sugar cube held over a liqueur glass. Usually in very small amounts as it's quite potent.
REAL absinthe is very hard to come by. If you have found some, be aware that it does contain opiates and is addictive.

I won't touch that stuff anymore, got leathered on a night out and did rather embarrassing things, but when I did, it was drank from a shot glass, neat, and down in one.
Or you could try intravenous drip!!!
