Why, or why not? And how would you define the soul?

No. The fact is none of us HAVE a soul or spirit or whatever you want to call it.

This is what we all ARE. What we have and operate is a Mind and a Body. Some of us operate these things better than others...... Hence the various conditions that you observe in people around you.

Definitions: Awareness of awareness unit. Source of life.Life itself. The being who is the individual and handles and lives in the body.
The spirit is not a thing, it is the creator of things.
You ARE your own immortal soul.

The soul is the essence of your being. It's what makes you 'you' and not someone else. It is the combined product of all your experiences and learning in life.

The soul is not an incorporeal essence that inhabits your body. It is the result of chemical reactions between the complex patterns of cells in your brain.

Anything with the ability to learn from experience has a soul. Humans have a soul. Any animal that has a brain also has a soul. Plants do not have souls. Rocks do not have souls. Cars and toasters do not have souls. Some computers and robots do have souls.

A soul does not miraculously move on to a higher plane when the body dies. When the brain dies, the soul is gone.

It is possible for the brain to die while the body lives on. A computer's hard drive can be erased without destroying the computer. Teri Schiavo's body survived on life support long after her brain had decomposed and been replaced with cerebrospinal fluid. Once the soul is gone, preserving the body will not bring it back. Nothing will.

We live on only in the memories of others.

Hi Tim,

I think that anyone's response to your first two questions will depend a lot on their answer to your third question. If we define a soul, like some religions do, as a part of ourselves that survives bodily death and continues to exist, then I would have to say that I don't believe in a soul because there is really no evidence or reasons for me to do so.

However, if we define the soul a little differently, I am more willing to accept the concept. We could say that our soul is that part of us which harbors all the good in humanity; things like empathy, understanding, compassion, the ability to communicate complex thoughts, and so on. For me, when someone talks about the soul this definition is what they are getting at.

The Bible tells us that we are a living soul, Genesis2:7, animals were referred to as living souls, Genesis 1:20, so I think what you're asking is what is the soul? Answer the living creature, human or animal as a soul. Do we have a spirit or ghost or aura that leaves the body after dead and float around independent of the living body? No. The living know they are going to die but the dead are conscious of nothing. Ecclesiastes 9:5-6

But this science of life, had no colour, chemical, test, weight, cost. Is it ok ?..

We have both. They are actually synonyms.
A soul: an extension of a human body that exists in spiritual realm, not in the material world.

i must say that my belief is not based on information but only on intuition. i think the soul is what makes humans human, their ability to have emotions, in general their warmth. by warmth meaning equally positive and negative feelings, as you probably know anger and hate makes your body temperature rise just as love and passion do. yes, i do believe it exists because otherwise i couldn't explain most of the sensation i get to feel and i always need to understand everything.
but my answer is as i said just based on intuition, i suggest to read philosophy for a better answer.

good luck in your research
