Governments take the money from citizens (and others) through force - you don't pay you go to jail. So where from does this absurd notion of tax-payer rights come? We pay on demand. No questions asked, so how can we be so dumb to believe that we have the right to tell the tax collector how to spend or not spend the money he has just mugged from us?

My first three respondents clearly missed the point. Taxes are collected by FORCE! Even in America. We can write all we want to those in office but how government spends the money has yet to be decided by the fella calling from home - yet oddly enough he seems to think that his letter or phone call will make a state budget comptroller say, "okay Jim Bob, I hear you so I won't use your money like I intended..."
My question is why do tax payers hold onto the belief that they do decide government spending - which in fact is decided by the bureaucrats (in any country on earth)?

Hmm we are starting again from first place.

First, man had no taxes. Everybody did what they pleased. They ended up killing each other. So God saw this and he along with some evil toast masters decided that it was time to take over. So God said ye all shall pay your taxes and I will use it for the common good when really God was enjoying it for himself. Then they created America and Freedom of Speech and Right to Civic participation and the taxpayer could elect who plays God. Then all the money went into the treasury supposedly owned by God. The Treasury Keeper was no better than God was, and God found this out. So he kicked out the treasury keeper and said I am in control again who dares to say no, come out and i will kill him?

We did take a look at that plan. The Federal Government as soon as depended at the States for tax assortment, t was once for the duration of the years of the Articles of Confederation, that have been a crisis. Been there, performed that, it did not paintings. How did the libertarians attempt to eliminate the Federal sales tax in 1789? The first Federal Income tax wasn't instituted till the 1860's! That is the situation with a lot of you men and women that like to speak historical past, you have to be taught historical past first.

In America, taxes are not taken by force. I mean, there isn't a squad of soldiers standing at your door with the tax collector holding a cloth bag from the bank. The taxes we pay are used in so many capacities from running our governments wether federal, state,or local to services like the police, fire department ,emergency medical services,etc..If you feel that your taxes could be spent on something better, then write to your local Congress representative and let them know what you're wanting them to do. Remember, they work for YOU!

It's really very simple.

They tax you, you pay that tax, and when his/her time is coming to a close, then they ask you to vote for them to keep doing the same.

Only once and awhile they come off with..."And no new taxes", or "forty acres and a mule".

The system says when you vote for the elected official, you trust they will do the right thing with your taxes.

Do they? Guess not.

We can say what we want, but they will do what they want!

Just look at how they're handling the illegal immigration problem. The government doesn't care what WE think after they are elected, they just do what they want. (usually as a bargaining tool for something that will benefit them as an individual, not for the citizens.)

Become involved in politics and vote for politicians who work for the common tax payer. Get your degree and run for office. We need honest polititians. Become involved in clean elections.

It is simple If the politicians don't do what the majority of people who elected them want they will find themselves out of work. If you get a group of people who want something done it generally gets done.

We have the right to talk to our elected officials. We have the right to vote for somebody different if we don't like it. We don't have the right to decide on each issue, and I, for one, don't have the time.

We elect people to take care of it for us...those people usually end up ignoring the people who put them there...it is a disadvantage of the represenative democracy.

You have to vote for the candidates who best represents your ideas. If you fail to vote, don't complain.
