Secularism is basic nature of Hinduism.
Logic says :
1. Religion is a matter of personal choice & is private to the individual concerned.
2. It is supposed to make a better person out of a human being.
3. It supposedly preaches peace & brotherhood with all of mankind.
4. It certainly ought to teach tolerance towards all & in particular towards other religions.
Points#1 & 4 if practiced together would make a person or group secular.
Despite that, religion has more often than not, been a dividing force between people. Communallism as well as Pseudo-secular groups are two threatening groups which, if allowed to grow unchecked, can harm the secular fabric of any country. Both of these aim to exploit the religious sentiments by twisting them to suit their political ends.
Communal or Non-secular : Passionate about their religion, fanatic zeal, intend to promote/propagate their religion even at the expense of other religions
Pseudo Secular: Profess non alignment to any religion but the use of religion to further their end is cloaked. Their stands keep shifting as per convenience and they take a moral high ground with regard to secularism.
In the political context: Both try to garner political mileage/votes by evoking religious sentiments. Depth of their religious feelings might be suspect, but desire to use it for their own good, is not.
secularism is ideal for any society especially with diverse faiths and denominations. The problem is not many people joing politics are that secular but fall into catagary of pseudo secularism. ideally government should not interfere in relegion and it would good if relegious organizations stay away from politics.
The problem og India in particular is our education system. It is run by communists with their own agenda. So they undermine Hinduism. As well as media and government.
Do not forget that a large section of Hindus is already studied in missionery schools and if not exactlly converted to christianity, has not much respect for their own beliefs either. Many of them are atheists. While I have no problem with atheist, majority of them are not so because they have read scriptures and analysed it , but OUT OF IGNORANCE. They never understood the philosophy as even if they read it, they did it so with evangelical eyes.

No, the threat is not in secularism. India has achieved prosperity by being a secular nation and it should remain so. I don't think Hinduism is threatened in India. But if you think otherwise, then the biggest threat to Hinduism in India is from politicians who cleverly mix religion and politics and dupe the people.

Hinduism is the oldest religion in the world and has survived many such attacks. Its a great religion and nothing can be a threat to it. Again, which religion or cult or whatever you believe that may threaten Hinduism has the guts to challenge such a big army of over 330 million gods and goddesses?

The biggest threat is not Secularism or Atheism. Its their own hardliners who are thick headed. Its almost as a terrorism. Hindu hardliners are a threat for the generally peace loving Hindus

SO WHAT DO YOU CARE, ANYWAY?
It doesn't matter. Hinduism has survived all these years, it will survive many more years. I wouldn't worry my head over this trivial issue. No point in losing sleep. There are many other, far more important, issues out there to solve.
Relax!

short term, terrorism is the bigger threat. long term, AGW is. Your grandchildren's grandchildren won't likely care what we did or did no longer do approximately terrorism, different than as a historic interest. yet what we do, or do no longer do, approximately AGW ought to surely nonetheless be affecting them.
