Hi

I've been trying and trying to log into Yahoo! Messenger - but can't.

When I fire it up, I enter my ID and password and the welcome screen just shows me the grey dozy face and asks me to sign in again. I've tried this several times and reloaded MGR and rebooted many times - so it doesn't look like an installation prob.

Same applies when turn off my firewall / Nortons AV. Makes no diff.

I'm on Optus broadband and they advise me that other users can use it so I'm presumably doing something wrong ....

As for the connection preferences, I've tried all four of them to no avail. I understand from the people at Optus that I don't need proxies so presumably the 'no proxies' or 'firewall no proxies' option should work.

What i have noticed is that when I go to choose the connection preferences, I cannot select (or deselect) "dial up" which is towards the bottom of the screen. An FAQ I read seemed to assume I should have been able to do that - or is that irrelevant?

Hey - thanks Owlwings

Yes, it is Version 8 - I might see if I can find a Version 7 and see how that goes.

Cheers

Which version of Messenger are you using? I recently installed the v8 Beta and had the same problem. It would log in and log out immediately - repeatedly and annoyingly grabbing the focus, so that whatever else I was doing, I kept losing the cursor.

I have uninstalled and gone back to v7 and now have no problem. "Firewall no proxies" should be the correct setting. I also believe that Messenger has no connection with Internet Explorer, so setting the privacy levels there should make no difference.

By the way, there is a category for Yahoo Messenger. You should have put the question there, since I believe that Yahoo staff do check that.

internet options , never dial ,ok .
as for proxies ,choose automaticly detect proxys .
your done .
you may have to wait or repete some sign in ,for updates to keep conection .
Also windows has a wizard to make the connection too . use both methods though one or the other will work.
