I sometimes relized that my son, michael, age 8, has an erect penis in his shorts, I do not understand where he get this from and why it happens so often, I notice it like 3-5 times per day, usually around the times of the 3 meals, breakfeast, lunch, and dinner. It has become a hassal to deal with, I do confront him about it but he always just ends up crying and running to my wife. How do I deal with this?

My 8 year old son also has this "problem". This is really no problem at all, many boys experience it, or so my pediatrician says. The best thing to do is to let him know "This is it. This is what your penis does when you get excited. Don't play with it in front of other people and if you need to adjust it, excuse yourself to a private room like the bathroom or your room." This is apparantly going to be your first penis conversation, so try to make sure you get the penis etiquette in there, don't want any little mishaps. Try not to be nervous or show signs of being distressed or upset. After all, he's kind of stuck with it, and you don't want this to be an upsetting topic for him, as it can lead to sexual issues when he is older. As far as every day goes, once you have the penis conversation, try to ignore the erection unless he is constantly messing with it. If that is the case, ask him what the problem is. Perhaps his underwear are too loose, or too tight, or itchy or whatever. Good Luck

Dont make a big deal of it. You will scar him for life. It really isnt a big deal. Maybe he just has to pee or the wind is catching him off guard. Leave him alone unless he starts acting out about it. Males normally get erections all through the day. And if you give him a lot of attention about it he will probably do it more. The best way to stop innapropriate action is to give the opposite response than what was expected.Nobody ever argued with a fencepost, did they?

You are a guy..you of all people should be handling this situation better than this! You don't remember what it was like to be an 8 year old boy with this same problem??? Because I am pretty sure you did?? You definitely don't sit and embarass him even more about the situation by confronting him about it!! Try talking to him about what is going on with his body.
If you can't handle it yourself or don't know how, talk to his doctor to get some hints...you keep embarassing him you are going to mess him up for life!! Seriously, where do you think serial killers come from!! They get messed up in pre puberty.

at that age i dont think it is something he can control . aslo if you are making an issue of it it may be upsetting him and he may think soemthing is wrong with him . as far as dealing with it ignore it there is nothing you can do . maybe his shorts are rubbing and stimulating causing the erection .
males have erections through out the day . although it is less when they get older it happens . if you are still concerned talk to his doctor with out your son present and ask about it

actually different things can cause an erection in a young boy..other than the obvious... at very young ages their more likely to not understand it themselves. our 2 yr old gets am erection, it could be just over excited & when he's gotta pee. i wouldnt make a big deal about it unless you find playboys or naked girl pics in his room & that shouldnt be for at least another 4 yrs

I swear you were a woman asking this question until the end. He is 8. Puberty and growing starts between 8 and 14. He will be finished when he is 19. He is only beginning.

I dont think you should confront him with it your making him feel guilty,he is only a child why would this bother you, i am sure the situation will get better let him grow serene, it will probalbly fix it self as he grows, he might just be sensitive to his clothing in some way .

Don't confront him! It;s a natural part of growing up. he is embarassed of the things his body is doing and your not helping. Try to get him away by himself and talk to him answer questions that he may have and not in front of others ie. mom, sisters or older brothers.. He is feeling awkward and unsure of himself.

My goodness, Kyle....chill out. If you are as fixated on this as you sound, your son is going to become self-conscious about this, and that could lead to some real issues soon. Relax.....it's just his body being what it is.

Explain puberty to him. I mean, What can you do? Nothing. Erections are normal, he most likely will start masturbating soon--if he hasn't already.
