If all you have done if filed papers at the recruiters office and taken the ASVAB then you are not in the NG.
You would have sent to MEPS to get your physical along with picking your job and everything else. After that you would be given a ship date. Before you ship you have to take the Oath -This is when you are in the military - after the Oath you will be loaded up and shipped to your boot camp.

You are not officially part of any branch of the Military, until you have been sworn in.
If you have taken the Oath, yes, you are now part of the Military and you have to fulfill your contract, or you are considered AWOL.
Once sworn in, you have very few options to get out. A couple of options would be...a Hardship discharge, or if you are not physically able to complete your basic.

Hey, what is good for the president, should be good for you.
Actually, unless you signed the contract and were sworn in, you do not have much to worry about. However, IF you made the commitment, and do not live by it, you can always run for president one day and say you served.

did you take the oath? IF you did, you can't "QUIT" the National Guard. You are AWOL. If you didn't, you aren't a member yet.

It depends on how you quit. Did you notify anyone you were quitting? You're either AWOL or a civilian depending on your answer.
